Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Maintenance Generalist for the Metro Detroit YMCA Association.

General Function
The Maintenance Generalist will traverse the Association to ensure that all YMCA facilities, equipment, and grounds are safe, clean, and well-maintained.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • At least four years of experience in facility maintenance is necessary
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and work order/purchase order systems is required
  • Experience operating and maintaining a large aquatic environment is preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License is mandatory

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance tasks across YMCA facilities, including repairs on doors, windows, pool equipment, furniture, and exercise equipment
  • Utilize mechanical skills to carry out maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs, carpentry, painting, and custodial duties
  • Organize and store deliveries in their designated areas upon arrival
  • Engage in landscaping and snow removal activities
  • Oversee pool operation and maintenance, including cleaning, chemical management, and equipment care
  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of exercise equipment
  • Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles based on weekly inspections, review driver logs, and maintain vehicle records
  • Supervise housekeeping staff and day porters
  • Execute additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel

Skills and Abilities

  • Capacity to exert physical force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, including bending, stretching, twisting, and reaching with arms and/or legs
