Job description:

This position is responsible for ensuring optimal productivity during daily operations, collaborating closely with management to assess recruitment and hiring needs, establish deadlines, and enforce safety protocols among team members. The Foreperson plays a crucial role in troubleshooting common job site challenges and actively engages with employees and contractors to facilitate required training, as well as managing and mentoring staff.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and assign daily work for the crew following directives from the General Foreperson or Line Clearance Supervisor.
  • Conduct field training and retraining, providing instruction on new or revised job units.
  • Foster a culture of safety by exercising sound judgment, adhering to company policies, and complying with OSHA regulations to ensure safe work practices.
  • Implement safety training in accordance with company protocols.
  • Engage with property owners and customers regarding access, power interruptions, work to be performed, and liability for property damage, escalating complex issues to the General Foreperson as needed.
  • Secure verbal or written permission from property owners for necessary work.
  • Maintain positive customer and public relations through effective completion of assigned tasks and appropriate crew conduct.
  • May be authorized to investigate incident reports and minor damage claims, ensuring resolution.
  • Keep accurate records, timesheets, and reports concerning crew operations.
  • Monitor crew costs and optimize the use of personnel, work methods, and equipment operations.
  • Provide reports to the General Foreperson and utility representatives on task completion, crew time, and minor repairs.
  • Regularly furnish updates on incidents, equipment breakdowns, property damage, and new employee integration.
  • Collaborate with local authorities to manage traffic when blocking roads or driveways.
  • Implement physical safeguards such as barriers and warning signs to protect both employees and the public, making informed decisions in emergency situations to minimize risks.
  • Inspect and address maintenance needs for tools, trucks, and equipment.
  • Uphold cleanliness and organization on trucks and at work sites.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT vehicle maintenance and inspection standards.
  • Stay informed about new equipment and industry practices, including adherence to EEO and AA policies, requesting repairs or replacements as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to interpret drawings and symbols associated with electrical lines and equipment.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Organizational skills with a capacity to manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience working independently in field settings with minimal supervision.
  • Validity to operate a company vehicle safely.
  • Capability to work with hands raised for extended periods.
  • Weight must not exceed approximately 300 pounds due to equipment constraints.
  • No fear of heights.
  • Willingness to pay union dues.

Education & Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in the Line Clearance industry is required.

Pre-Screen: Candidates may be required to undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and/or motor vehicle record check.

License & Certifications: A valid driver’s license is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Rare (less than 10%): Crawling, climbing, gripping, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional (up to 33%): Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body-twisting, manual dexterity, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, balancing.
  • Frequent (up to 66%): Walking, sitting, climbing on/off truck, reading, lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Continuous (up to 100%): Clear communication, sight and depth perception, color vision, and hearing.
