Job description:
Lead Resident Assistants play a vital role in our wellness team, providing personal assistance to residents and supporting them in achieving their highest level of functional independence and psychosocial well-being under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, including ambulation, transferring, bathing, personal hygiene, incontinence care, feeding, reminders, and supervision, in accordance with individual care plans.
- Engage and assist residents in activities, both in groups and on a one-on-one basis, to encourage socialization, participation in planned activities, and the development of friendships.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for residents, ensuring rooms are tidy daily and attending to scheduled housekeeping tasks such as laundry. Serve meals to residents in the dining room or apartment.
- Promote healthy eating habits while respecting residents’ rights to make choices regarding their diet. Document and report any changes in eating habits to supervisory staff.
- Observe residents closely and report any changes in psychosocial and physical conditions, including concerns such as skin breakdown, rashes, behavioral changes, alterations in speech, or changes in appearance, to the Wellness Director.
- Maintain daily resident records in compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Adhere to established safety protocols regarding fire protection, infection control, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous waste, and quality assurance. Promptly and positively respond to all requests for assistance, including emergency situations and family inquiries.
- Report all complaints, grievances, suspicions of abuse, and instances of abuse to the Wellness Director and/or the Executive Director.
- Participate in wellness meetings and mandatory training sessions to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents and staff. Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, as well as to write clear messages.
- Capacity to make standard decisions based on detailed guidelines with minimal independent judgment. Problems are typically resolved using explicit outlines or through consultation with supervisory personnel.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Experience working with older adults.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification.
- Previous experience in Assisted Living or Memory Care environments.
- Knowledge of dementia and related diseases is preferred.
Education and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, drug screening, TB test, and physical examination.
Physical Demands:
- Capacity to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers for handling and feeling, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and possess visual acuity.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
- Regular interaction with co-workers, clients, and vendors.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or night shifts may be required to ensure adequate shift coverage.
