AI Pay Analysis: To provide an analysis of the hourly rate for the “Dialysis Clinical Technician” role based in Troy, MI, it’s important to note that as of my last data update in October 2023, dialysis technicians typically earn between $15 to $25 per hour, depending on factors such as experience, certifications, and the specific healthcare facility. Given that Troy, MI, may have variations due to cost of living and demand for healthcare professionals, if the offered rate falls within or above this range, it would generally be considered competitive and align with industry standards. Additionally, the part-time nature of the position (20 hours per week) may influence compensation slightly, but overall, assessing the specific number against these standards would provide clarity on its competitiveness.

For a precise evaluation, comparing the offered rate to current job listings and local market trends in the Troy area would be essential.

Job description:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and empathetic Clinical Dialysis Technician to join our esteemed team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to patient care and a genuine passion for assisting individuals with kidney disease. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in delivering dialysis treatments while ensuring the overall well-being of our patients.

The Clinical Dialysis Technician operates within Troy Home Dialysis, a unit affiliated with our outpatient dialysis facility, which manages peritoneal and home dialysis patients with a census of three PD patients. The unit is supported by full-time Nephrologists, supplemented by a part-time Home Nurse and a travel pool home dialysis technician, along with multiple support staff shared with the outpatient clinic, including front desk personnel and technical leaders responsible for machine maintenance.

Our team engages in case management of patients monitored through connected health platforms for Baxter and NxStage systems. Patients receive training to perform home dialysis treatments at our clinic, with peritoneal dialysis training taking approximately 7-10 days and home hemodialysis training lasting 4-6 weeks. The home care team coordinates monthly clinic visits for all home patients, working alongside the interdisciplinary team, and arranges lab draws for PD patients. We also provide patient education and facilitate referrals to transplant services as requested.

The unit typically operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM for patient care, with some flexibility to meet clinic requirements. Home Nurses are expected to be on call after hours, including weekends. The home clinic is generally closed on weekends and holidays, contingent on training or clinical needs.

General Summary:

  • Administer dialysis treatments in accordance with established protocols and physician orders.
  • Monitor patients throughout treatments, assessing vital signs and responding to any changes in their condition.
  • Set up and operate dialysis machines, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting issues as necessary.
  • Administer medications and intravenous fluids as directed by the physician.
  • Educate patients and their families regarding dialysis procedures, dietary guidelines, and self-care techniques.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records, documenting treatment activities and patient progress.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and safety regulations within the dialysis unit.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and engage in continuing education to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.

This posting outlines the primary duties, responsibilities, and authorities of the position, and is not intended to serve as an exhaustive list of all possible job-related tasks.

Education Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a dialysis technician training program is preferred.
  • Certification as a Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) must be obtained within 18 months of employment.
