Job description:

Models and delivers an exceptional customer experience by engaging customers and patients through warm greetings and assistance with products and services. Responsible for registering sales at the assigned cash register, providing courteous, fair, and effective checkout service.

In compliance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist under direct supervision with various pharmacy practices. Utilize pharmacy systems to accurately obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions in a timely manner.

Customer Experience

  • Connect with customers and patients by warmly greeting them and offering assistance to ensure a positive experience. Address and resolve customer inquiries and issues effectively.
  • Demonstrate and share best practices in customer service with team members, encompassing key interpersonal habits such as eye contact and courtesy, along with Walgreens service traits that include proactive assistance, needs identification, and ongoing service until satisfaction is achieved.

Operations

  • Provide fast and friendly service to customers at all times.
  • Suggest items for sale to customers, including trade-up or companion products as appropriate.
  • Process customer purchases on the designated cash register, collecting payments and providing change, while handling voids, returns, rain checks, refunds, and exchanges as necessary. Assist customers in locating products in the OTC aisle when possible.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of counters and shelves, conduct inventory counts, and keep accurate records. Check in and price merchandise as per directions from the store manager or shift leader.
  • Execute duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including data entry of patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying correctness of medicines, and checking for potential interactions. Assist pharmacists in scheduling and workflow management.
  • Promptly report any prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies and procedures concerning pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program. Familiarize oneself with and comply with the Walgreens Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Adhere strictly to Walgreens Co. policy on Good Faith Dispensing during all relevant prescription activities.
  • Manage phone calls not requiring pharmacist attention, including those from physicians.
  • Correct and resubmit manual claims for third-party prescription services in a timely manner, and perform additional clerical tasks as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Support the Pharmacy Department with inventory management tasks, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments. Maintain knowledge of company asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse discrepancies (e.g., overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods related to prescription drugs).
  • Ensure compliance with local and state laws regarding regulated products, including alcoholic beverages and tobacco items.
  • Construct and maintain various merchandise displays, including promotional and seasonal items, and complete resets and revisions as necessary.
  • Assist in the separation of food items (e.g., raw versus pre-cooked) and ensure proper product placement as per established policies and procedures. Also assist with stock rotation for consumables, following a first-in, first-out methodology.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of store systems and equipment.
  • Provide customer service in the photo area, including digital passport photo services and suggestive selling of promotional photo products.
  • Undertake web pick-up responsibilities by monitoring orders, filling requests, and delivering orders to customers as they arrive at the store.
  • Assist with the maintenance of both exterior and interior store conditions to ensure a clean, neat, and orderly environment.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, while fostering respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete special assignments and additional tasks as assigned.

Training & Personal Development

  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or by meeting state-required certification and registration standards.
  • Attend training sessions and complete Professional Learning Pathways (PLPs) as requested by management, while securing continuing education credits to stay informed on the latest healthcare and pharmacy developments.

External Basic Qualifications

  • Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • A willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference for candidates with at least six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior experience with Walgreens is highly desirable.
  • Strong math skills preferred for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Good computer skills are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control systems is preferred.
  • PTCB certification is preferred.
