Job description:
Position Summary:
The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in assisting surgeons and other medical professionals within operating rooms and similar environments. This position involves the preparation of patients, surgical rooms, and necessary equipment prior to surgical procedures, as well as active participation during surgeries as an integral member of the surgical team.

Responsibilities:
– Prepare operating rooms by ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are properly disinfected, assembled, and in optimal working condition.
– Maintain and ensure the integrity of the sterile field within the operating room.
– Provide essential supportive care during the pre-operative phase, including preparing the patient’s skin for surgery, moving and positioning patients, and monitoring vital signs.
– During surgical procedures, perform scrub functions such as passing sterile surgical instruments to surgeons, cutting sutures, tracking item usage and performing instrument counts, collecting and labeling specimens, and assisting with wound dressing. May also transport patients post-surgery.
– Ensure cleanliness, sterility, and adequate stocking of the operating rooms in preparation for subsequent procedures.
– Execute clerical tasks, including ordering supplies, maintaining logs, accessing and entering patient information, conducting inventory, and providing administrative support as required.
– Offer compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and their families.
– Ensure adherence to all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA standards.
– Maintain a safe and clean working environment, protecting patients and staff by following infection control, hazardous waste, and other relevant policies and protocols.

Required:
– High school diploma or equivalent.
– Completion of an accredited surgical technology training program.
– Certification as a surgical technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
– BLS Certification.

Preferred:
– A minimum of one year of experience in a medical setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– A fundamental understanding of patient care, medical terminology, anatomy, surgical techniques and equipment, and coding procedures pertinent to the role of surgical technologist.
– Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and customer service abilities.
– Proficient knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques.
– Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems.
– Ability to manage multiple requests effectively and prioritize tasks.
– Capacity to perform efficiently in high-pressure situations.
