Job description:
The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station. This role entails tasks such as transferring, spreading, covering, loading, and compacting waste or soil, all conducted with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of equipment in accordance with company policy, ensuring that windows, lights, mirrors, and rear view cameras are clean. Safely and efficiently operate various heavy equipment, including forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders.
- Monitor waste continuously for signs of unacceptable materials.
- Regularly check the equipment’s condition to ensure it is operationally ready at all times, minimizing downtime through appropriate maintenance such as cleaning tracks or wheels as necessary.
- Perform and document minor servicing on equipment, referring more complex mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop for repair.
- Complete all required reports, including the Equipment Condition Report, and communicate any needed repairs to the supervisor.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures rigorously.
- Ensure the work area is clean, serviced, and organized at the end of each shift.
- Undertake additional job-related duties as assigned.
