Job Objectives
The role entails providing empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and awareness of potential drug interactions. The pharmacist will deliver preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome assessments. Key responsibilities include ensuring the proper compounding, dispensing, review, and verification of prescribed medications in accordance with regulatory guidelines and company policies. The pharmacist will also support the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and assist the pharmacy manager in identifying opportunities to optimize financial performance, inventory management, and enhance the overall patient experience.

Job Responsibilities/Tasks
Patient Experience
– Engage with patients by greeting them warmly and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve patient inquiries promptly to ensure a positive experience.
– Demonstrate and share customer service best practices among team members to create a distinct and enjoyable patient experience, including interpersonal habits that convey care, such as maintaining eye contact and courtesy, as well as embodying Walgreens service traits, including curiosity about patient needs and proactive support.
– Anticipate patient needs and proactively offer relevant services, thereby fostering a transition from transactional to interpersonal pharmacy interactions, including consultations on medication management and wellness services such as immunizations and diagnostic testing.
– Participate in community events that reflect the unique needs of the neighborhoods served, as directed by management.

Operations
– Counsel patients on medication use, addressing inquiries related to side effects, interactions, and generics, while referring them to medical providers as necessary to ensure proper medication adherence and satisfaction.
– Execute pharmacist responsibilities, including compounding, conducting drug therapy reviews, and overseeing medication management.
– Review and accurately dispense prescribed medications, when workload permits, ensuring compliance with all standards and regulations.
– Assist the pharmacy manager in establishing procedures that enhance operational efficiency, including role assignments and soliciting team feedback; responsible for operational tasks such as pharmacy opening and closing.
– Adhere to the Good Faith Dispensing policy and ensure compliance with state and federal controlled substance laws in prescription fulfillment.
– Maintain an updated understanding of pharmacy-related information technology and systems to effectively support both patients and pharmacy staff.
– Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims and resolve related patient issues to prevent payment rejections, while actively following up with insurers and participating in third-party audits.
– Communicate with medical providers to clarify prescriptions and suggest alternatives when necessary.
– Provide clinical and wellness services, including immunizations and diagnostic testing, while actively engaging in patient management.
– Collaborate with the pharmacy manager to analyze performance metrics related to financial performance and customer service, developing procedures for asset protection and inventory management.
– Foster strong relationships within the local medical community and engage in outreach activities to promote pharmacy services and opportunities for growth.
– Partner with centralized support teams to assist with patient registration and issue resolution, and facilitate virtual product reviews in accordance with company guidelines.

People & Performance Management
– Assist the Pharmacy Manager in the recruitment and training of staff, providing guidance on performance through coaching and constructive feedback while monitoring customer service quality.
– Promote teamwork and motivate team members by setting clear expectations, monitoring progress, and fostering a shared vision.

Training & Personal Development
– Stay current with knowledge and required licensing/credentialing/certification as mandated by federal and state regulations.
– Maintain ongoing professional development by engaging with pharmacy-related literature and pursuing best practices that enhance overall performance.
– Acquire necessary certifications and training as stipulated by the company.
– Actively seek feedback on performance and leverage management support for continued professional growth.

Communications
– Support the Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager by disseminating relevant information regarding corporate health and wellness services to pharmacy staff.

External Basic Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
– Valid pharmacist licensure in applicable states within the district.
– Demonstrated experience in prescription dispensing activities, showcasing knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance regulations.
– Certification as an Immunizer or willingness to obtain this certification within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
– At least one year of experience as a pharmacist in a retail setting, encompassing prescription filling and verification, records management, legal compliance, pharmacy operations, technology systems, and insurance processes.
