Job description:
Summary: The Graduate Nurse exemplifies outstanding customer service skills through an unwavering commitment to the Vision, Mission, and Values of MyMichigan Health. This role involves providing care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse mentor, where the Graduate Nurse will execute designated competencies acquired during educational programs and orientation. It is important to note that until licensure is achieved from the State of Michigan, the Graduate Nurse is not authorized to administer medications. While delivering direct patient care, the Graduate Nurse operates under the supervision and delegation of the RN mentor.

Responsibilities:

(30%) Patient Care: The Graduate Nurse is responsible for delivering nursing care under the guidance of the RN mentor, utilizing the Nursing Process to effectively prioritize and organize delegated patient care assignments. This position entails accountability for all aspects of patient care and the complete and accurate documentation of interventions. The role includes performing technical nursing skills as specified in the standards and procedures manual and as documented in unit-specific competencies. Additionally, the Graduate Nurse is encouraged to reinforce patient and family education as delegated and take an active approach in pursuing learning opportunities, including completing the orientation and participating in shift care planning alongside the RN mentor.

(30%) Communications: This role requires the identification and communication of any changes in patient conditions to the RN mentor and necessitates a positive approach to personal interaction with all individuals encountered in the healthcare environment.

(20%) Unit Responsibilities: The Graduate Nurse will ensure the maintenance of a clean and safe patient care area. This includes the appropriate handling and return of equipment post-use and seeking clarification regarding equipment usage when needed. Consideration of costs associated with supplies utilized in patient care is also essential.

(20%) Personal Responsibilities: The Graduate Nurse must demonstrate a collaborative approach to care alongside interdisciplinary team members and engage actively in quality management and continuing education initiatives.
