Job description:

The Team Leader plays a pivotal role in supporting the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to achieve operational, sales, and merchandising objectives, all while delivering a Legendary Customer Experience. This position is also crucial in fostering a safe and productive work environment for Team Members, customers, and vendors, and involves training Team Members on the proper application of company policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Candidates must demonstrate availability, flexibility, adaptability, and a service-oriented mindset, fulfilling the following key responsibilities:

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work scheduled shifts and accommodate varied hours, including days, nights, weekends, and overtime based on business needs.
  • Uphold and promote a safe, productive work environment by strictly adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by employing the GURA (Greet, Uncover, Recommend, Ask) methodology, which includes:
    • Greeting the Customer.
    • Identifying Customer Needs and Wants.
    • Recommending Product Solutions.
    • Adding Value and Appreciating the Customer.

Throughout the day, the Team Leader will perform a variety of essential duties that may shift based on operational demands, including but not limited to:

  • Executing assigned merchandising activities for promotional and seasonal items.
  • Performing opening and closing procedures.
  • Transporting and depositing funds at the bank.
  • Assessing store conditions and assigning duties appropriately.
  • Organizing and prioritizing workflow through a daily planner.
  • Ensuring merchandise recovery.
  • Participating in freight processing.
  • Conducting regular and promotional price changes.
  • Resolving customer concerns to guarantee a Legendary shopping experience that stands out from the competition.
  • Adhering to loss prevention standards and addressing alarm calls as necessary.
  • Communicating effectively with Team Members regarding their job functions, responsibilities, and financial goals.
  • Operating the cash register while supervising cash handling practices.
  • Supporting Team Members in the appropriate implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of live birds, including sanitizing and maintaining poultry holding tanks.
  • Operating forklifts and bailers when necessary.
  • Completing documentation associated with all duties performed.
  • Obtaining any required licenses or certifications as dictated by the business.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: Retail experience, along with familiarity in farming, ranching, pet/equine care, or welding, is highly preferred. Supervisory experience is also advantageous. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, though not mandatory. Candidates must be able to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic with accuracy.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Excellent reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict.
  • Capability to execute the principal responsibilities of Team Members.

Working Conditions:

  • The work environment is generally favorable, involving indoor settings with moderate noise.
  • Shift lengths may vary between stores, typically lasting no less than 4 hours and possibly exceeding 8 hours.
  • Promotion of a safe work environment for Team Members and customers is essential, including adherence to company safety training guidelines.
  • Flooring is predominantly made of hard surfaces (e.g., concrete, asphalt), with adequate lighting and temperature control.
  • Capacity to work outdoors in various weather conditions is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of moving and transferring merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the store.
  • Ability to push and pull merchandise weighing up to 2,000 pounds with appropriate material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jack).
  • Occasional lifting or reaching for merchandise overhead.
  • Frequent standing, kneeling, twisting, crouching, squatting, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders.
  • Sustained movement throughout the store for the entirety of the shift.
  • Safe access to all areas of the store, including the selling floor, side lot, stock area, and register area.
  • Proficient operation and use of store equipment (e.g., dolly, hand truck, forklift, baler, computer, cash register), noting that forklift and baler operation restrictions apply to individuals under 18.
  • Continuous operation of store equipment like computers and cash registers.

  • Proficient processing of information and merchandise through the point-of-sale system.
  • Experience handling poultry as required.
  • Successful completion of training and certification for propane dispensing when applicable.
  • Flexibility for travel as needed to support district operations and the capability to drive or operate a vehicle for business needs.
  • This position is non-sedentary, requiring individuals to complete various training and certification requirements as necessary.
