Title: House Manager (RN) – Bronson Battle Creek – PRN
The House Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting operational and patient care services within the organization. This position demands effective leadership skills to empower staff, resolve issues, and make informed decisions. The House Manager provides immediate administrative and clinical guidance to unit staff and ancillary departments, coordinating hospital-wide activities to address various challenges, particularly in the absence of unit leaders. This role requires both independent work and collaboration with others. Employees engaged in direct patient care must exhibit competencies relevant to the specific population served.
For South Haven only: As of December 1, 2019, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required upon hire for this position. Employees hired prior to this date must maintain an active nursing license and possess 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in a hospital setting or equivalent.
Candidates must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan. For Bronson South Haven Hospital, Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required upon hire, with Advanced Life Support certification to be completed within six months. Completion of the Hospital Incident Command courses, including IS-100.HCb, IS-200.HCb, IS-200.HCa, IS-700.a, and NIH Stroke Certification, is also required within six months of hire.
For Bronson Battle Creek, the House Manager is part of the stroke team and is responsible for ensuring the proper mixing and dosing of TPA.
Key Responsibilities:
– Oversee and coordinate hospital operations, providing administrative direction.
– Resolve crises and conflicts while delivering analysis, assessment, and intervention for urgent issues.
– Investigate problems and complaints from patients, visitors, physicians, and staff, implementing appropriate actions and follow-ups.
– Act as the initial contact for atypical events, conducting assessments and initiating necessary actions to stabilize patients, while ensuring timely notification of risk management and relevant department leaders.
– Continuously assess the hospital environment for safety concerns and act accordingly.
– Attend and lead Safety Check-In Meetings, ensuring communication around safety protocols.
– Coordinate all admissions and transfers, collaborating with the Bronson First team for regional transfers.
– Manage hospital capacity and throughput to facilitate timely patient placements while communicating with relevant stakeholders when the hospital reaches capacity.
– Lead Bed Planning Meetings and work with the staffing office to ensure appropriate staff assignments to maintain safe patient care levels.
– Serve as the communication link with outside organizations, including other healthcare facilities, law enforcement, and the media, according to established communication protocols.
– Manage the initial response to disasters, crises, or emergencies, coordinating activities until the incident commander arrives.
– Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, including those pertaining to substance abuse.
– Provide support and documentation for employee incidents and collaborate with ER physicians regarding exposure to communicable diseases.
– Identify bed bugs in cooperation with the EVS manager, coordinating necessary actions to ensure patient safety.
– Conduct regular rounds to monitor departmental activity, patient care levels, and assist with problem resolution, acting as a mentor to staff and an advocate for patients.
– Ensure the availability of supplies and equipment necessary for patient care, providing guidance during shortages and downtime.
For Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital: The House Manager is also responsible for completing the annual “Swing Beds” CBL in Workday, which differentiates between swing bed patients and traditional in-patient or observation patients, ensuring proper documentation and care for each.
