Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Manager, the Environmental Service Associate is responsible for maintaining environmental and infection control standards in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the healthcare facility. Key responsibilities include:

– Cleaning occupied and unoccupied patient rooms, public areas, surgical areas, and other designated spaces
– Stocking supplies and maintaining equipment
– Delivering outstanding service to both internal and external customers while adhering to regulatory compliance standards
– Following standard practices that ensure the highest standards of quality and safety

Effective April 19, 2021, a high school diploma or GED is no longer a requirement for this position. (BBC only) A valid Michigan driver’s license and insurability may be required.

Tasks include:

– Performing general cleaning and maintenance of patient rooms, operating rooms, and related areas, adhering to the Environmental Services Department’s established ten steps of cleaning
– Ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations (CDC, OSHA, EPA, Joint Commission) essential for the role
– Executing isolation procedures in isolation and contact plus rooms
– Conducting detailed cleaning of vents, fan fixtures, window tops, door frames, wall art, bumpers, and furniture as needed
– Cleaning public areas including lobbies, waiting rooms, restrooms, elevators, utility rooms, exam rooms, offices, stairwells, and other designated locations
– Collecting and replacing all sharps and black pharmacy box containers in patient care areas
– Documenting and maintaining records of completed cleaning tasks
– Restocking supplies as needed
– Communicating relevant information and requests to registered nurses and patient care assistants
– Providing exceptional service to patients, staff, families, and visitors
– Upholding the confidentiality of patient data in compliance with HIPAA regulations
– Transporting trash and soiled linens to disposal areas
– Maintaining a clean and orderly work area while cleaning equipment and assisting with assigned tasks
– May operate mechanical floor equipment such as IMops, vacuums, and sweepers
– Directing visitors as necessary
– Coordinating cleaning activities with department coordinators as needed
– Committing to personal growth and development, attending regular staff meetings
– Actively engaging in the Bronson Management System by participating in huddles and applying problem-solving methods
– Operating ultraviolet (UV) disinfection equipment (Surfacide UV Robot) as required (BBC Only)
– Performing additional duties as assigned, which may include the use of the trash compactor and managing trash and linen chutes
