Job description:
Under general supervision, this role involves providing exceptional customer service and overseeing the operations of animal care, ensuring adherence to City and State regulations regarding the restraint, licensing, vaccination, impoundment, care, and quarantine of animals.

Key responsibilities include:

– Assigning duties, preparing shift schedules, coordinating activities, and ensuring adequate coverage when staff are unavailable.
– Providing clear guidance, prioritizing tasks, building accountability, and monitoring performance metrics.
– Conducting interviews, hiring, orienting, and training Animal Care Technicians and Animal Shelter Assistants.
– Performing annual evaluations, setting performance objectives, and offering feedback and coaching to foster staff development.
– Instructing new hires on the policies, procedures, and overarching operations of animal care and control.
– Preparing incident reports, providing recommendations for disciplinary actions, and addressing citizen complaints as necessary.
– Explaining departmental policies and interpreting relevant laws, ordinances, and procedures for staff and the public.
– Monitoring the activities of Animal Care Technicians and Animal Shelter Assistants to ensure compliance and efficiency.
– Reviewing work records and activity reports to guarantee accuracy and proper documentation.
– Performing humane euthanasia of sick, injured, or unclaimed animals, ensuring adherence to safe and compassionate procedures.
– Ensuring timely maintenance of vehicles, equipment, facilities, and incineration systems.
– Assisting in budget preparation and monitoring operational expenses.
– Preparing daily cash reconciliation reports.
– Managing communication through radio and telephone systems with Animal Care Technicians, Animal Shelter Assistants, Veterinarians, other agencies, and the public.

Minimum qualifications include:

– High School Graduation or G.E.D.
– A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a municipal animal care facility or a related environment.
