Job description:

As a part of the Inn at Bay Harbor, a distinguished Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel located on the serene shores of Lake Michigan, we are seeking a dedicated Safety/Security Officer. This role is essential in ensuring a safe and secure environment for our guests, visitors, and team members. The Safety/Security Officer is tasked with performing protective and enforcement functions with professionalism and courtesy, effectively managing emergencies, undesirable conduct, disturbances, and threats to life and property.

In this position, you will also serve as a Screener as part of our Safety/Security team, conducting daily health screenings for employees before they enter the workplace. This role requires exceptional customer service and communication skills, as you will be responsible for temperature checks and health screening inquiries for employees and visitors upon their arrival.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of resort grounds to ensure areas are secure and free from unauthorized individuals and disturbances.
  • Perform interior and perimeter foot patrols of the hotel to observe and identify potential safety and security risks or undesirable conditions.
  • Evaluate situations and make informed decisions on how to proceed.
  • Answer security-related phone calls and respond promptly.
  • Administer CPR and First Aid as needed.
  • Verify identification of visitors and employees when required.
  • Facilitate access to secured areas for authorized personnel.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including medical incidents, security concerns, and guest complaints.
  • Investigate altercations and assess safety hazards.
  • Maintain knowledge of hotel and guest room locking systems.
  • Complete incident and accident reports clearly and concisely.
  • Conduct investigations related to property losses, guest and employee accidents and illnesses, and crimes affecting the resort.
  • Provide escorts for individuals carrying money or fulfilling other special requests.
  • Adhere to proper radio communication etiquette at all times.
  • Maintain and review the daily activity log.
  • Handle guest and employee incidents with confidentiality.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Availability to work varying days and shifts, including weekends.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current certification or the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, EMS, security, or military service is preferred, but not mandatory.
