The Crime Gun Intelligence (CGI) Specialist will take an active role in identifying armed violent criminals and members of violent gangs and criminal organizations involved in shootings, violent criminal activity, or firearms trafficking. This position requires the ability to support National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) sites through the timely entry of ballistic evidence and contribute to the aggregation of intelligence from NIBIN results and other sources to facilitate lead preparation for investigators.

Key responsibilities include:

– Analyzing and drafting reports to assist in the development of crime gun intelligence.
– Correctly identifying and tracing firearms through the ATF e-Trace system.
– Utilizing the NESS platform for the daily entry of local Record Management System (RMS) event information related to ballistic evidence entered into NIBIN.
– Reviewing results and reporting on successful outcomes.
– Utilizing Crime Gun Intelligence to pinpoint high-value targets, merging NIBIN hits, tracing results, multiple sales, NICS, and local intelligence.
– Coordinating with ATF Field Divisions, local law enforcement intelligence agencies, and designated authorities to share findings.
– Engaging surrounding agencies in the NIBIN and e-Trace processes and managing crime gun intelligence collection efforts.
– Distributing findings, including unconfirmed hits, to the appropriate authorities.
– Ensuring timely entry and return of hits and traces through site management.
– Assisting with quality control measures to confirm accuracy in casing entries and trace execution.
– Conducting presentations and training sessions for agency officials.
– Tracking and documenting outcomes from leads generated via crime gun intelligence.
– Performing site surveys and providing liaison support as needed.
– Demonstrating strong analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written, to share information effectively.
– Establishing collaborative relationships to achieve shared objectives.
– Conducting NIBIN equipment entries and image correlation reviews after receiving approved training.
– Participating in data collection processes, including entering evidence into IBIS and executing thorough tracing.

Position Requirements:

– U.S. Citizenship with a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
– A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or a combination of education, practical experience, and on-the-job training.
– A minimum of five years’ experience in local, state, or federal law enforcement is preferred but not mandatory.
– Proven ability to collaborate effectively with law enforcement entities at various governmental levels.
– Capability to plan and complete complex projects, presenting findings to groups while addressing potential obstacles.
– Successful completion of the ATF clearance process, including the provision of a DNA sample as part of employment screening.
– Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to analyze and report findings comprehensively.
– Exceptional presentation skills tailored for group engagements.
– Availability for occasional travel.
