General Summary:
The Category Manager will play a crucial role in defining, developing, and implementing the sourcing program for key spending categories. This position aims to achieve cost savings while supporting the strategic objectives of our business unit customers and the enterprise. The Category Manager will collaborate with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and supply chain teams to deliver value-added outcomes, ensuring optimal total cost of ownership, quality assurance, and adherence to schedules.

- A High School Diploma coupled with a minimum of four years of relevant experience, including:
- A solid understanding of typical enterprise-wide functions and related products, equipment, and services.
- A background in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.
- Experience in project management within utility supply chains.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or Accounting/Finance is preferred.
In this role, you will:
- Manage category strategy for over $100M in annual managed spend. Act as the expert on assigned categories, monitoring market drivers, supplier landscapes, emerging technologies, regulatory factors, and performance metrics.
- Conduct market and financial analyses to identify key market influences and mitigate associated business risks. Utilize structured analysis of market and spending data to prioritize and direct strategic sourcing initiatives within assigned categories.
- Lead the specification management process from need definition to contract administration, including investment recovery.
- Synthesize analyses to create comprehensive sourcing strategies, determining the optimal supply chain models to procure necessary products and services with maximum savings.
- Promote healthy competition to enhance performance and reduce costs, ensuring adherence to established methodologies and educating the organization on the rationale behind each step during bidding processes.
- Collaborate in developing negotiation strategies and company positions on complex contracts, ensuring legal protection and successful negotiation outcomes that facilitate win-win results.
- Identify new supply sources and innovative products/technologies, maintaining oversight and ownership of all assigned categories.
- Initiate best practices within strategic procurement to drive process excellence, keeping abreast of industry innovations for continuous improvement.
- Foster strong, ethical relationships with suppliers, acting as the main liaison within assigned categories.
- Develop and manage performance metrics for selected suppliers, negotiating variable terms to establish long-term contracts that result in significant cost reductions and enhanced service levels.
