The Role: Maintenance Group Leaders
The Maintenance Group Leader will lead a team of skilled employees in troubleshooting and repairing complex equipment and processes. The individual will be responsible for consistently administering the National and Local Agreement between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union. This technical role requires independent judgment within the framework of Global Manufacturing Systems, emphasizing Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). Selected candidates will have the opportunity to acquire new skills and influence the development of manufacturing processes that support the transition to electric and autonomous vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and respond to the daily manufacturing plan in real-time.
  • Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment characterized by competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage change and navigate ambiguity effectively.
  • Foster accountability through people and processes, which may require difficult conversations in a unionized environment.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Utilize analytical abilities to solve complex problems.
  • Conduct checks and tests as necessary and communicate evaluations of results.
  • Recommend viable solutions to challenges encountered.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance and diagnose equipment malfunctions.

  • Implement divisional and corporate policies, as well as safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Maintain ongoing contact and collaboration with teams outside the workgroup.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of direct team supervisory experience or at least five months as an internal GM per diem group leader.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic blueprints.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing performance issues while leading teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities in dynamic settings.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including conflict management and decision-making in ambiguous circumstances.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and email.
  • Willingness to work weekends and rotating shifts.
