AI Pay Analysis: To analyze the hourly rate for a “Product Development Engineer – Vehicle Architecture Programs” in Dearborn, MI, it’s important to consider industry standards and regional market conditions. As of October 2023, salaries for product development engineers in the automotive sector typically range between $40 to $70 per hour, depending on experience, education, and company reputation. In Dearborn, which is a hub for automotive engineering, rates may trend higher due to the concentration of major automotive manufacturers. Job description:
We are the catalysts of change, creating a better future for all through innovative transportation solutions. At Ford, we collaborate to redefine global mobility. Are you prepared to revolutionize the way the world moves? Our Product Development team employs design thinking and user experience methodologies to deliver groundbreaking products and services that not only meet but exceed customer expectations. We bring to life innovative, exciting, and sustainable ideas, with global opportunities available to contribute to advancements in autonomy, electrification, smart mobility technologies, and beyond.

In the Vehicle Architecture team, you will engage in the full product development lifecycle, initiating the concept phase for new Ford and Lincoln products and overseeing the comprehensive geometric integration and attribute compatibility of our vehicles. Your journey will start early in the process, collaborating closely with Planning to establish initial product assumptions, and will continue through physical testing to the final engineering sign-off. You will have the invaluable opportunity to translate customer preferences into product design, as Vehicle Architecture is accountable for setting and balancing initial program architectural attribute targets using systems engineering principles. Your focus will encompass interior and occupant packaging to ensure targets for driver accommodation, spaciousness, visibility, accessibility, and cargo capacity are met. You will gain exposure to all aspects of vehicle development, from the roof to the underbody and from the front fascia to the rear fascia. Additionally, your responsibilities will include the arrangement, design, and integration of mechanical systems, such as the powertrain compartment, chassis, underbody, and upper body.

In this role, you will:

– Establish vehicle interior and occupant packaging targets, including driver accommodation, spaciousness, exterior visibility, ease of ingress and egress, and cargo capacity; as well as overall vehicle mechanical package targets, encompassing exterior dimensions, wheel and tire sizing, ground clearance, and underhood/powertrain clearances.
– Effectively communicate occupant and mechanical package targets by developing and cascading 3D CAD zones, collaborating with engineering colleagues to ensure targets are achieved.
– Support the development of solutions and alternatives to meet occupant and mechanical package targets, taking into account cross-functional trade-offs such as quality, functionality, weight, cost, and assembly feasibility.
– Conduct analysis on benchmarking, customer satisfaction, and quality data from both internal and competitive products to inform target development.
– Assist with design verification testing—such as ground, powertrain, tire clearance testing, and surface scanning—to facilitate engineering sign-off of prototypes at critical prototype gateways.

To qualify for this position, you will need:

– A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, or Human Factors).
– A minimum of 1 year of experience with commercial CAD modeling software.
– At least 1 year of experience in an engineering discipline (internships are acceptable).

Preferably, you may also possess:

– A Master’s degree in engineering.
– A minimum GPA of 3.0 or above.
– Demonstrated ability to advance mechanical design solutions for intricate systems.
– Strong communication and presentation skills.

Even if your experience does not perfectly match our requirements, we encourage you to apply if you believe you can add value to Ford Motor Company. As a well-established global organization, we offer you the freedom to shape your own future. Whether your journey takes you across the globe or keeps you close to home, you can explore your passions deeply or embrace diverse teams and skills. Will you emerge as a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder, or all of the above? Regardless of your path, we provide a work environment that accommodates your lifestyle, which includes:

– Immediate medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.
– Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized backup childcare, and more.
– Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more.
– A vehicle discount program for employees and their families, as well as management leases.
– Tuition assistance.
– Established and active employee resource groups.
– Paid time off for individual and team community service.
– A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
– Paid time off with the option to purchase additional vacation time.
