General Summary
Under supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, perform accurate and efficient diagnostic examinations in all areas of general radiology. Technologists must exhibit strong clinical skills to provide optimal images for interpretation while applying radiation protection principles and adhering to regulatory standards. Responsibilities include overseeing designated areas and providing clinical instruction as necessary, while consistently following Corewell Health’s philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.
Essential Duties
- Perform quality diagnostic exams after verifying patient identification and physician orders.
- Gather and document comprehensive patient histories in the medical record.
- Monitor patients throughout procedures to ensure safety.
- Conduct radiographic and related patient care procedures using age-appropriate methodologies, tailored to patients’ physical capabilities or limitations.
- Ensure timely communication of STAT requests to the radiologist.
- Effectively collaborate and communicate both inter-departmentally and intra-departmentally with administrative, medical staff, and peers, maintaining a focus on customer service.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating diagnostic imaging equipment and adhere to policy guidelines regarding equipment malfunctions or quality control issues.
- Implement ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and self.
- Provide procedural information and education to patients and their families prior to each examination.
- Contribute positively to department operations by assisting colleagues and adhering to quality assurance and control measures.
- Accurately and efficiently utilize hospital computer systems for order verification, schedule viewing, and PACS communication.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new hires and students.
- Ensure that equipment is sanitized between patients and that exam rooms are kept clean and adequately stocked with linens and supplies.
- Maintain competence in all assigned areas, including fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic, and operating procedures.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Accredited Radiography program.
- Experience gained through student training is required.
- CRT-Radiologic Technologist Registration – ARRT from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (to be completed within 180 days).
- CRT-Radiographer (R) – ARRT from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (required upon hire).
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross (required upon hire).
