General Summary
Under supervision and in adherence to established policies and procedures, the Radiology Technologist is responsible for performing accurate and efficient diagnostic examinations across all general radiology domains. Technologists are expected to exhibit strong clinical skills and deliver optimal images for interpretation, while applying radiation protection principles and complying with industry regulations. This role entails assuming responsibility for a designated area and providing clinical instruction as needed, all within the framework of Corewell Health’s philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.

Essential Duties

  • Execute high-quality diagnostic exams following verification of patient identification and physician orders.
  • Gather and document comprehensive patient histories in the medical record.
  • Monitor patients during procedures to ensure their safety.
  • Conduct radiographic and associated patient care procedures utilizing age-appropriate methodologies in accordance with patients’ physical capabilities and limitations.
  • Ensure that STAT requests are promptly communicated to the radiologist.
  • Maintain effective communication with customer service, administrative staff, medical team members, and colleagues across departments.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating diagnostic imaging equipment and follow established protocols for equipment malfunctions or quality control issues.
  • Implement ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) standards to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and oneself.
  • Provide procedural information and education to patients and their families prior to examinations.
  • Support the effective operations of the department by assisting colleagues and remaining compliant with quality assurance and quality control standards.
  • Accurately and efficiently utilize hospital computer systems for order verification, scheduling, and information transmission to PACS.
  • Assist in training new hires and students.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned between patients and that exam rooms are maintained in a clean and organized state, properly stocked with linens and supplies.
  • Maintain competency across all assigned areas, including but not limited to fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic, and operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Accredited Radiography program.
  • Practical experience acquired at the student level is mandatory.
  • CRT-Radiologic Technologist Registration from the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) must be obtained within 180 days.
  • CRT-Radiographer (R) certification from the ARRT is required upon hiring.
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the AHA (American Heart Association) or ARC (American Red Cross) is required upon hiring.
