Job description:

Under supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, this role is responsible for conducting accurate and efficient diagnostic examinations across all areas of general radiology. The technologist must exhibit strong clinical skills to ensure the production of high-quality images for interpretation. This position prioritizes the application of radiation protection principles and adherence to relevant regulations. Additionally, the technologist will take responsibility for their designated area and provide clinical instruction as necessary, while consistently embodying the philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.

Essential Functions:

  • Execute high-quality diagnostic exams following verification of patient identity and physician orders.
  • Gather and document accurate patient histories in the medical record.
  • Monitor patients throughout procedures to ensure their safety.
  • Perform radiographic and related patient care procedures using age-appropriate methods tailored to patients’ physical abilities and limitations.
  • Relay STAT requests to the radiologist promptly.
  • Communicate effectively within inter- and intra-departmental teams, including customer service, administrative personnel, medical staff, and peers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating diagnostic imaging equipment and adhere to protocols in the event of malfunctions or quality control issues.
  • Employ ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and oneself.
  • Provide informative procedural education to patients and their families prior to examinations.
  • Contribute to the department’s effective operations by assisting colleagues and ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards.
  • Accurately utilize hospital computer systems for order verification, viewing schedules, and transmitting information to PACS.
  • Assist with the training of students and new hires.
  • Ensure that equipment is cleaned and sanitized between patients and that exam rooms are stocked with necessary linens and supplies.
  • Maintain competency in all assigned areas, including fluoroscopy, general diagnostics, orthopedics, and operating procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiography program.
  • Completion of training at the student level is required.
  • CRT Radiologic Technologist Registration – ARRT from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required within 180 days.
  • CRT Radiographer (R) – ARRT registration must be obtained upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the AHA or ARC is required upon hire.

Physical Demands:

  • Rarely lift items over 5 lbs from the pallet to waist and up to 10 lbs occasionally.
  • Occasionally lift up to 35 lbs between waist levels.
  • Rarely lift over 5 lbs from waist to chest and overhead.
  • Occasionally engage in pushing and pulling forces up to 35 lbs.
  • Frequent standing and walking; sitting is seldom required.
  • Occasional trunk rotation while standing.
  • Rarely perform reaching above shoulder level.
  • Frequent finger and hand dexterity required.
  • Visual acuity and color vision capabilities should meet the established standards.

This position is based at Dearborn Hospital in the Diagnostic Radiology department, working full-time with evening shifts and a variable schedule, including weekends.
