Job description:
The Life Skills Program Specialist is tasked with the development and implementation of Life Skills programming throughout the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) communities. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Partnerships & College and Career Readiness, this role encompasses the full lifecycle of program development—from conception to execution, inclusive of event logistics management and program evaluation.

The Program Specialist will oversee both new and existing programs, ensuring alignment with the yearly Life Skills plan. This position plays a critical role in bridging gaps across various Life Skills domains, such as skilled trades, mental health, and physical health, while providing opportunities and resources for girls to emerge as leaders. The individual in this role will focus on both short-term objectives and long-term goals that align with the strategic direction of the department and the broader aspirations of the Council.

Key Responsibilities:
– Collaborate with the Vice President of Partnerships & College and Career Readiness to fulfill budgeting requirements, devise program strategies, achieve objectives, and effectively manage partnerships.
– Research, coordinate, and oversee all Life Skills programming, which includes serving as a facilitator and chaperone for select workshops.
– Act as a leader and key contributor for the Girl Advisory Board, the Michigan Women’s Commission, the United Nations Leadership Opportunity, and other council initiatives as needed.
– Fulfill the responsibilities of a project manager by tracking tasks, ensuring deadlines are met, engaging with relevant partners and vendors, securing venues, procuring necessary materials, developing evaluation plans for each program, and organizing pertinent meetings with stakeholders.
– Collaborate with partners and vendors to deliver impactful and relevant programming across all GSSEM communities.
– Prepare internal and external meeting agendas.
– Draft sensitive and high-priority communications, including emails and documents.
– Partner with the marketing and communications team to develop campaign strategies for all Life Skills events.
– Serve as the primary point of contact for partners and other stakeholders.
– Assist in managing event plans, timelines, and action items alongside the Project Manager of Programs and Events.
– Monitor program budgets and collaborate with the Fund Development team to secure grant funding for programs.
– Provide timely feedback on project plans as required.
– Coordinate event services such as catering and transportation when necessary.
– Foster strong relationships with stakeholders.
– Prepare and submit reports on time.
– Perform additional duties as needed.

Essential Requirements:
Education:
– Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience.
– A minimum of three (3) years of experience in project/program management.
– A minimum of three (3) years of experience working directly with vendors, external partners, and/or volunteers.

Position Qualifications:
– Registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the S.A. is required.
– Proven skills in creative thinking and problem-solving.
– Demonstrated capabilities in administration and organizational management.
– Adept at providing training and creating comprehensive presentations using PowerPoint.
– Experience in supporting leadership and management initiatives.
– A successful history of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and community organizations.
– Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments to achieve shared objectives.
– Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with a willingness to learn additional software applications.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills.
– Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
– Willingness to travel as necessary.
