Job description:
Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures and administering approved immunizations, excluding red blood cell immunizations. This role also includes providing limited emergency medical care to both donors and staff, which involves the administration of medications or treatments in compliance with relevant licensure or certification. Reporting to the Center Manager, the incumbent will be pivotal in maintaining standards of care and donor management.

Key Responsibilities:
– Foster positive customer relations with all donors.
– Conduct confidential and effective interviews to gather essential information regarding donors’ suitability for plasma donation.
– Collaborate with the Center Medical Director and/or Center Physician to address medically related inquiries from staff pertaining to donor suitability and other health-related matters.
– Execute comprehensive medical history reviews and health assessments for donors, analyzing screening and laboratory test results to ascertain initial and ongoing donor eligibility.
– Notify and counsel donors concerning reactive test results and facilitate referrals to community facilities for further follow-up and counseling.
– Articulate the informed consent process to prospective donors, clearly explaining procedures, associated risks, immunization schedules, and ensuring the opportunity for donors to refuse participation while obtaining their signature as verification of informed consent.
– Manage medical emergencies at the Center by delivering routine care in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and escalate situations to the Center Physician or local medical service providers as necessary; conduct periodic checks to ensure emergency kits are well-stocked and up-to-date.
– Review test results to evaluate donor suitability, adhering to SOPs related to acceptable ranges for required four-month tests, and remain knowledgeable of all policies regarding donor approvals and grace periods.
– Monitor donors for signs and symptoms that may indicate an inability to continue donating.
– Demonstrate an understanding of policies related to hyper immune programs at the Center, overseeing donor immunization initiatives and reviewing antibody titer results as necessary.
– Accurately record donor information in the electronic donor information management system in accordance with SOPs.
– Maintain a clean and efficient work environment and ensure the availability of necessary operating supplies and forms; comply with all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies, promoting safety in every action and conducting routine audits of these procedures.
– Safeguard confidentiality regarding all personnel, donor, and center information.
– May be cross-trained in additional areas to address business needs.
– Bilingual abilities may be required, at the organization’s discretion, to effectively meet business requirements.
– Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education:
– Completion of a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic medical training program.
– Graduates from foreign allopathic or osteopathic medical schools must hold current licensure as a physician or state certification as an emergency medical technician.

Experience:
– A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a healthcare environment.
– Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center, or a similar regulated setting, is preferred.
– Ability to perform and interpret a physical assessment, focusing on heart and lung sounds, and identifying signs of substance use.
– Proficiency in educating donors, staff, and the community about the benefits of plasma donation programs.

Working Conditions:
– Capable of making decisions with moderate impacts on immediate work units.
– Ability to understand, retain, and apply oral and/or written instructions.
– Must be able to visually communicate with customers and monitor equipment operation.
– Frequent requirement to stand and walk throughout the workday.
