We offer both full-time and part-time positions, with compensation ranging from $14 to $16 per hour.

Purpose of the Position:
The Lead Cook collaborates with the chef and other kitchen staff to prepare and oversee meal preparation. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality meal service, maintains adherence to menus, policies, procedures, and food safety regulations, and upholds clean kitchen practices. As a positive leader for all culinary staff on duty, the Lead Cook is expected to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess experience and training in professional cooking, along with any required certifications. Additionally, individuals must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in food service safety and sanitation (such as ServSafe) while cultivating knowledge of geriatric dietary needs and concerns. Strong cooking skills, mathematical competency for accurate ingredient measurements, and exemplary time management and organizational abilities are essential to ensure efficient meal preparation and timely service. The Lead Cook must also demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of food safety guidelines to prevent contamination and spoilage. Effective leadership and motivational skills are critical to fostering optimal performance among culinary staff. A minimum age of 18 years is required. Candidates must successfully pass state-mandated criminal background checks and random drug testing.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure the timely preparation and service of all foods and beverages in accordance with menu guidelines, policies, and regulations.
  • Prepare and suggest alternative dishes when residents decline menu items, as directed by the Chef.
  • Accurately document food temperatures and usage as necessary.
  • Guarantee meals are served appropriately, at the correct temperatures, and in an appealing manner.
  • Monitor returned plates to assess meal satisfaction.
  • Communicate with the Chef regarding food items that are frequently left uneaten by residents.
  • Inform the Shift Supervisor of individual residents consistently returning uneaten food.
  • Attend to residents’ preferences by offering alternate menu selections.
  • Ensure compliance with dietary orders and monitor residents’ weights and nutritional status in coordination with the Resident Services Coordinator.
  • Stay alert to changes in residents’ food consumption and report any challenges to the Resident Services Coordinator.
  • Supervise and assist staff in the preparation of menu items, prioritizing high-quality and fresh, local ingredients when possible.
  • Properly present food, including the use of garnishes.
  • Oversee the Utility Workers and Server/Prep assistants during shifts.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or facility issues immediately.
  • Utilize food, supplies, and equipment efficiently to minimize waste and loss.
  • Ensure compliance with HFA regulations, HPM policies, and SERVSAFE standards regarding cleanliness and maintenance.

General Responsibilities:

  • Act as an ambassador for this living center.
  • Adhere to Life Safety policies and participate in periodic drills.
  • Engage in training opportunities for professional development.
  • Report any safety and health hazards to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across shifts.
  • Arrive for work as scheduled.
  • Treat all residents with dignity and respect, observing any changes in their physical, emotional, cognitive, or behavioral conditions and communicating these changes to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Follow infection control protocols diligently.
  • Uphold all resident rights, including confidentiality.
  • Abide by the guidelines outlined in the Employee Handbook, including the code of conduct.
  • Perform all other duties necessary to fulfill the goals and responsibilities of this living center.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to stand, bend, twist, turn, stoop, squat, sit, kneel, pull, push, and walk long distances on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Tolerance for physically repetitive tasks.
  • Capability to endure both cold and hot temperatures, including exposure to steam.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly wage and benefits as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Eligibility for a 2% pay increase after 90 days of satisfactory employment.
  • Merit-based annual pay increases determined by comprehensive performance reviews conducted by the supervisor and Administrator.
  • An additional 1% increase can be earned by completing a minimum of 12 Independent Study opportunities.
