As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be an integral member of our agile analytics team, spearheading the design, development, and optimization of complex data infrastructure and pipelines. Your expertise will be vital in delivering impactful reporting, analytics, and machine learning solutions that contribute to business success. You will utilize your extensive experience to build and maintain critical data systems while mentoring and guiding junior engineers, ensuring that intricate business requirements are effectively translated into robust and scalable data solutions.
This role resides within the GEO-IS Data Platforms Product Development team, which supports our entire GEO-IS Solutions data infrastructure. Successful candidates will demonstrate their ability to convert complex business requirements into scalable and reliable data pipelines and models. The essential competencies of a successful Senior Data Engineer include:
- Serving as a subject matter expert for data and systems.
- Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and models, while advocating for architecture and best practices geared toward high performance.
- Identifying and leading initiatives to enhance data quality, standardizing and enriching data to address complex challenges and provide valuable insights.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize data models and support advanced business intelligence and analytics.
- Mentoring junior data engineers, leading code reviews, and promoting best practices and skill development.
- Optimizing data pipelines for performance and scalability while remaining current with industry trends and technologies.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transform complex business needs into aligned data models and architecture.
- Design and implement scalable, high-performance data pipelines and models.
- Optimize data infrastructure to address evolving business and technology requirements.
- Monitor and enhance data pipelines for performance and integrity.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in data engineering.
- Extensive expertise in schema design, dimensional data modeling, and data warehousing, with experience in cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively with cross-functional development teams, including stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Demonstrated capability to independently manage and prioritize complex projects, ensuring team commitments are met and strategic objectives are achieved.
- Expert-level proficiency in writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex SQL queries across multiple databases.
- Advanced skills in data processing and manipulation using programming languages such as Python, focusing on developing scalable data solutions.
- Experience with on-premises data engineering tools such as dbt core.
- Proven track record of automating complex data tasks and workflows, including designing and implementing automation frameworks.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate).
- Proven experience in migrating data infrastructures from on-premises to cloud environments, including strategy development, execution, and post-migration optimization.
- Familiarity with big data technologies such as PySpark or Kafka for processing and analyzing large-scale datasets.
- Experience with modern data warehousing solutions (e.g., Azure Synapse, Databricks) and their integration with business intelligence tools.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and best practices for ensuring data security and compliance.

Additional Information:
The annual salary for this position ranges from $130,000 to $160,000. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday (in office), and the company maintains a business casual dress code.
