Job description:
Provides comprehensive pharmacy consulting services with empathy to patients, ensuring effective medication use and awareness of drug interactions. This role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy department, including workflow management, clinical patient management, continuous quality improvement, adherence to policies and procedures, compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements, and oversight of pharmacy sales, expense control, and inventory management. It is essential to maintain the pharmacy’s image through accurate prescription filling and the delivery of exceptional customer service to patients, healthcare providers, and pharmaceutical and payer partners while safeguarding departmental assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Experience:
- Exemplifies and disseminates customer service best practices among team members to create a distinctive and fulfilling experience, emphasizing interpersonal skills such as greeting, eye contact, and courtesy. Fosters a culture of curiosity, proactivity, empathy, and inclusivity in service delivery.
- Addresses patient inquiries and complaints promptly to ensure a positive patient experience.
Operations:
- Directs the daily operations of the pharmacy department, focusing on enhancing prescription volume, sales, profits, and the pharmacy’s reputation through diligent prescription filling and courteous service to all stakeholders.
- Reports prescription errors immediately, adhering to company policies concerning incidents and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Complies with all federal and state laws, as well as company policies regarding drugs and products, while maintaining necessary records and reports.
- Suggests and implements asset protection measures to minimize profit loss.
- Ensures cleanliness, maintenance, and overall aesthetic appeal of the pharmacy department for the safety and well-being of patients and team members, while complying with relevant regulations and laws.
- Manages the financial aspects of the pharmacy, including electronic register transactions, cash withdrawals, and daily financial reporting.
- Ensures efficient operation and maintenance of pharmacy equipment and systems.
- Maintains vigilance over third-party pharmacy business opportunities, implementing appropriate procedures to reduce payment rejections and promptly addressing any issues that arise.
People & Performance Management:
- Supervises pharmacy team members, ensuring compliance with company policies and performance standards. Verifies that all personnel possess the required licenses and training for their roles, reaffirming their obligations to act in good faith when dispensing prescriptions.
Training & Personal Development:
- Keeps abreast of current knowledge and licensing requirements mandated by federal and state regulations.
- Pursues professional development through self-evaluation, constructive feedback, and mentorship from pharmacy leadership. Engages with relevant literature and industry communication to stay informed about pharmacy and healthcare advancements.
Communications:
- Cultivates positive working relationships with physicians and healthcare professionals, collaborating effectively with the Local Specialty Pharmacy team.
External Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid pharmacist license in the relevant states.
- Minimum one year of pharmacy experience, encompassing prescription filling and verification, legal compliance, and proficiency in pharmacy operations and software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws through productive dispensing activities.
- Completion of specialized training or practical experience in specific medication and disease states pertinent to clinic services (e.g., HIV, Organ Transplant, Oncology).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous tenure at a Walgreens Local Specialty Pharmacy.
- Rating of 3.7 or higher on leadership behaviors in the most recent performance review (for internal candidates).
- At least six months of pharmacy experience with Walgreens Co.
