Job description:

Leads and embodies the values of the Company. This role involves guiding and developing team members to deliver exceptional product quality and customer service, while also driving sales and managing costs for each shift. The Assistant Manager must demonstrate sound judgment and discretion in supervising employees and addressing customer concerns, ensuring that all decisions align with operational policies and procedures. Key focus areas for this position include, but are not limited to:

People Management

  • Train, coach, and develop Potbelly Associates and Shift Leaders.
  • Conduct formal evaluations of Associate and Shift Leader performance, completing and signing off on appraisals.
  • Hold weekly feedback sessions with Associates, Certified Trainers, and Shift Leaders.
  • Educate and enforce relevant work rules, personnel policies, labor laws, and security and safety procedures.
  • Recommend and/or implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Support the hiring and retention of Associates, Certified Trainers, and Shift Leaders.
  • Implement strategies to reduce turnover and enhance job satisfaction among team members.
  • Effectively schedule Associates, Certified Trainers, and Shift Leaders.
  • Maintain updated communication boards with critical shop information.
  • Organize monthly meetings for Associates, Certified Trainers, and Shift Leaders.
  • Develop musician schedules.

Customer Engagement

  • Ensure exceptional customer experiences.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints effectively.
  • Uphold high standards for product quality, service speed, cleanliness, and sanitation.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by assigning daily cleaning responsibilities and conducting weekly follow-ups.
  • Enforce and manage all food safety requirements and practices diligently.
  • Uphold uniform policies consistently.
  • Oversee back-of-house operations to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Ensure security and safety in the shop by properly executing established procedures.

Sales Initiatives

  • Drive neighborhood marketing and promotional efforts to maximize sales opportunities, including outreach for recruitment and marketing purposes.

Profitability Management

  • Control assigned profit and loss line items effectively.
  • Manage food component costs, labor, waste, and cash flow across shifts.
  • Count cash drawers and ensure adherence to cash handling protocols.
  • Responsible for weekly updates of the daily preparation sheet.
  • Maintain food inventory standards and manage shop orders as necessary.

Essential Physical Functions

  • Ability to work a minimum of 45 hours per week.
  • Capacity to stand or walk for 9-10 hours per day and sit for 1-2 hours per day.
