Job description:
Belcan has an immediate opening for a Remote Linux Systems Engineer tasked with developing, designing, and deploying production environments. This role will involve close collaboration with the Senior Linux Systems Engineer on critical enterprise infrastructure and provide day-to-day support alongside other Linux Administrators and application owners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and drive them to successful completion.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure Administrators, application teams, and security teams.
- Advise customers on best practices while adhering to their requirements.
- Develop, discuss, and implement approved change requests in line with Change Management processes.
- Utilize expert-level knowledge of Ansible and AWX for deployment and automation.
- Perform troubleshooting to resolve system issues and implement effective solutions.
- Provide support for a variety of core infrastructure systems running on Linux.
- Maintain and support essential services, including Samba, DNS/DHCP, Apache/nginx, NMS, SQL, Backups, SMTP, and Web Proxies.
- Monitor systems and proactively respond to operational issues, ensuring prompt resolution.
- Maintain highly available virtual server environments.
- Oversee installation, upgrades, and patch management to ensure optimal system performance.
- Provide after-hours support during critical outages that impact users.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- A successful candidate will possess over 5 years of engineering experience with core Linux services, including DNS, DHCP, NTP, Postfix, Samba, MySQL, and Apache.
- Expertise in scripting with Python, including the ability to convert scripts into Python.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Configuration Management and Orchestration using Ansible.
- In-depth knowledge of SSL certificates and Certificate Authority Management.
- Experience with the deployment and management of system monitoring and reporting tools, preferably Zabbix.
Additional Skills:
- Strong understanding of Linux operating systems, particularly RedHat, CentOS, and Rocky Linux.
- Familiarity with Virtualization platforms, such as VMware and AWS EC2.
- Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and network configuration.
- Understanding of security best practices, including user management, access control, and vulnerability management.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.

Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods and utilize a telephone headset. During inactivity, proactive engagement in updating scripts and reviewing standards is essential.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma is required; ITIL Foundations Certification is desired. Candidates should have completed vocational, technical, or business training (6-8 months) or possess equivalent experience. A minimum of 5 years in a technical support environment and/or customer service is required.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, Monday through Friday) that includes a competitive benefits package. Due to the nature of our work, U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required, and candidates must be eligible for a U.S. Government security clearance.
