Job description:
The Public Safety Aide (PSA) position is a variable-hour role within our organization, offering a competitive starting pay rate of $17.95 per hour. This role is designed for individuals who aspire to pursue a career in law enforcement, providing professional work experience without the requirement of certification. PSAs who meet the established eligibility criteria may be entitled to education and training reimbursement in accordance with departmental policies.

The application period for this position will commence on Thursday, January 2, 2025, and will remain open until Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
As a Public Safety Aide, you will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities including processing arrestees, performing jail-related duties, and assisting police officers in managing individuals in custody. Administrative support for the front desk officer and execution of non-peace officer duties as assigned will also be required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK (not exhaustive):

  • Perform jail attendant duties, including the search of prisoners taken into custody, assisting with restraint of subjects, and processing arrests in alignment with established procedures.
  • Take fingerprints and mugshots while processing court paperwork and other related tasks as directed.
  • Maintain the front desk and the jail/booking area to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
  • Assist lobby traffic by providing support to citizens and township employees.
  • Collaborate with police and fire personnel as needed, executing a variety of public safety tasks that do not involve peace officer or firefighter duties.
  • Keep records and prepare reports as assigned, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Log all activities consistently and maintain familiarity with PSA scheduled training to uphold proficiency in assigned tasks.
  • Understand and comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as departmental policies relating to the PSA role.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • A demonstrated interest in law enforcement as shown by relevant education, training, and volunteer experience; at least twelve college credits in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Homeland Security, or a related field is preferred.
  • Capability to obtain and maintain Public Safety clearance throughout employment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills is mandatory.
  • Previous experience in handling cash is preferred.
  • Ability to provide emergency assistance promptly and effectively.
  • Competence in gathering information for efficient service delivery.
  • Physical stamina to respond to management situations and assist with the restraint of individuals in custody.
  • Ability to remain composed and act decisively during emergencies.
  • Efficiently operate required office equipment.
