Job description:

We are seeking to fill a full-time Cook Helper position immediately. This role is located at Andrews University, situated at 8700 West Campus Circle Drive, Berrien Springs, MI 49104. Please note that we only accept online applications.

The position offers a full-time schedule with varied days and hours, beginning at 1:30 PM. Further scheduling details will be provided during the interview process. Candidates are required to have previous food service and line cook experience; however, we are willing to provide training for the right individual.

Benefits of this position include a complimentary shift meal and provided uniforms. The hourly pay rate ranges from $16.00 to $16.50.

In this role, you will assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items, maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learn to read menus to estimate food requirements and order supplies from suppliers or procure from storage.
  • Prepare and cook food following company production records and standardized recipes.
  • Adjust thermostat controls to regulate the temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles under guidance.
  • Measure and mix ingredients per recipes using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods, adding seasoning as instructed.
  • Taste and test food to ensure proper cooking.
  • Carve meat and portion food onto serving plates, adding gravies, sauces, and garnishes.
  • Wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables.
  • Butcher chicken, fish, and shellfish as directed.
  • Bake bread, rolls, cakes, and pastries as instructed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area and equipment, adhering to principles of sanitation and safety in food handling.
  • Interact with customers and coworkers courteously and efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with company service standards, inventory, and cash control procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
