The General Manager position involves providing leadership and management to all school staff, ensuring that Aqua-Tots Swim Schools’ Core Values and brand standards are upheld. This role is essential in delivering consistent, quality swimming lessons that align with the Aqua-Tots Curriculum Standards while fostering a safe and welcoming environment for customers.

Areas of Responsibility

The General Manager is accountable for the oversight and management of the following key areas of School Operations:

Customer Service and Sales

  • Ensure all Front Desk and Aquatic staff exemplify Aqua-Tots Core Values in all interactions with staff and customers.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer engagement and overall satisfaction.
  • Educate customers about the Aqua-Tots ‘Learn to Swim’ program to effectively meet their needs through appropriate lesson offerings.
  • Supervise the Office Manager (OM) and Aquatic Manager (AM) in managing class schedules.
  • Oversee Front Desk personnel in tracking and converting all In-Water Evaluations.
  • Manage the AM in the review of all scheduled and completed In-Water Evaluations.
  • Supervise the OM and AM in addressing customer service issues and feedback regarding instructors or curriculum received via social media, email, and in-person communications.
  • Assist AM in following up on curriculum or instructor-related student withdrawals.
  • Collaborate with OM to address facility or scheduling-related student withdrawals.
  • Guide AM in the management of student progression.
  • Ensure all Aquatic and Front Desk Staff deliver exceptional lessons, customer service, and maintain the quality of school facilities.
  • Establish sales goals, track incoming and outgoing sales, and implement a sales incentive plan for staff.

Human Resources

  • Lead the AM and OM in effective staff management practices.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, mentoring, assessing, and scheduling of all personnel.
  • Manage all documented staff disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure all staff certifications are maintained in compliance with Aqua-Tots standards.
  • Coordinate personal weekly schedules to meet the needs of the school.
  • Review and approve all submitted staff timesheets and manage attendance and shift coverage.

Staff Management

  • Foster a team-focused environment while promoting the Aqua-Tots culture among all employees.
  • Ensure staff provides effective feedback to parents and children, addresses concerns, and offers solutions.
  • Monitor the AM and OM’s regular meetings with underperforming staff.
  • Follow up on action plans resulting from Deck Supervisor reports.
  • Ensure AM and OM conduct staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Facilitate Master Instructor and Deck Supervisor Meetings led by the AM.
  • Provide direction for AM and OM to arrange quarterly team-building activities.

Facility Management

  • Ensure the facility’s interior and exterior meet the brand standard for overall appearance.
  • Guarantee that the pool, pump room, and pool environment uphold Aqua-Tots brand standards related to appearance, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Maintain overall safety for both staff and customers within the school.
  • Review incident reports and implement necessary corrective actions.

Financial/Accounting

  • Develop, manage, and adhere to the school’s budget.
  • Comply with all franchise accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Process and submit payroll to the accounting department.

Marketing

  • Execute grassroots, local, and franchise-level marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with local marketing agencies to implement marketing strategies.

General Manager Certification Requirements

  • Aqua-Tots Water Safety Instructor (AT-WSI) Certification.
  • Aqua-Tots Front Desk Staff (AT-FDS) Certificate of Completion.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications.

General Manager Position Type/Expected Work Hours/Time Allocation

  • Full-time, salaried position.
  • Days and hours will vary based on the school’s needs and the season.
  • Expectation of 40+ hours per week.
  • Minimum of three shifts per week at the Front Desk.
  • Minimum of six hours per week dedicated to management meetings, assessment reviews, and aquatics observations to evaluate lesson quality and consistency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or equivalent GED; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Open and flexible availability.
  • At least two years of management experience is preferred.
