We are seeking experienced Senior Java Developers to join our team on a transformative project for a forward-thinking client in the automotive sector. This role involves working on connected vehicle services for customers across the USA and Canada who own vehicles with connectivity capabilities. The systems developed comprise backend, frontend, and middleware applications that integrate with connectivity units in vehicles, enabling features such as remote vehicle start, parking location visibility, and Alexa voice commands, among others. This is a full-time, salaried hybrid position based in Auburn Hills, MI, requiring in-office attendance at least three days per week.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Java development is essential for consideration.
  • Proven experience in integrating and managing APIs that expose microservices (REST, SOAP), including the development and support of Java/JavaScript services.
  • Proficient in web portal design and development, including web content management.
  • Expertise in building cloud-hosted, responsive, single-page web applications using JavaScript, Java, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • High proficiency with client-side JavaScript frameworks, preferably React/Redux.
  • Proficient with server-side frameworks, ideally Node.js.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB.
  • Strong UML skills and capability to facilitate Object-Oriented (OO) and J2EE design adhering to best practices and design patterns.
  • Familiarity with event-based System of Engagement architectures.
  • Knowledge of Design Thinking, Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Lean Startup, or XP, collaborating within cross-functional teams including Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Developers, Designers, and Business Analysts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to optimizing CI/CD processes, tools, testing frameworks, and practices (e.g., GitHub, Jenkins/Bamboo, Mocha/Karma).
  • Exposure to Kafka, Node.js, Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, CoreOS, and AWS.
  • Familiarity with Rx and ICP frameworks, operator libraries, core execution engines, high-scale streaming data management, manageability, tooling, and system optimization.
  • Experience with Liferay or other portlet-based services is preferred.
  • Capability to present ideas, concepts, and proofs of concept (POCs) to executive teams and stakeholders.
  • Detroit Labs is currently unable to hire candidates who will reside outside of the United States during their term of employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Agile methodologies (Scrum, Lean Startup, XP) and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams (Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Developers, Designers, QA, Project Managers, Business Analysts, etc.).
  • Comprehend project requirements and implement effective solutions while providing administrative tools and documentation.
  • Engage in design and code reviews.
  • Follow and contribute to the enhancement of existing development processes.
  • Provide accurate estimates, regular feedback, and ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Work a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of three days per week in the Auburn Hills office.
