Position Purpose:
Our food and food service delivery drivers play a pivotal role in the nation’s food supply chain. These drivers ensure that customer products arrive at their designated locations promptly and in optimal condition, all while representing our company and fostering lasting relationships with clients.
As a Shuttle Driver, you will be integral to our operations by transporting empty trailers to operating company warehouse locations and delivering full trailers to domicile/shuttle yard locations. The Shuttle Driver operates tandem trailers, tractor trailers, and/or straight trucks along intrastate and interstate routes, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This role involves effective communication and interaction with customers, vendors, and co-workers to address inquiries accurately and promptly. You will work collaboratively as part of the team within the department and organization, performing any assigned tasks to best serve the company.
Position Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
– Conducting all necessary safety checks (e.g., pre/post trip inspections) of the tractor/truck and trailer in compliance with DOT regulations, ensuring they meet company safety standards and taking required actions as necessary.
– Reporting all identified safety issues and required repairs.
– Adhering to all DOT regulations and company driving safety guidelines, immediately addressing any potential hazards. Inspecting trailers to confirm cargo is properly loaded and secured.
– Ensuring all required routing documentation accompanies tractor-trailer loads and is readily available upon dispatch.
– Operating and delivering trailers according to a predetermined route schedule.
– Executing hook/unhook procedures following safety protocols.
– Parking and storing tractor trailers in designated areas.
– Ensuring all equipment and freight are secured at all times.
– Collecting and securing damaged goods and customer returns in the empty trailer to transport back to the driver check-in at the base facility, completing all necessary documentation.
– Unloading equipment and materials, and removing trash from trailers as required.
– Maintaining a daily record of hours of service and logging them in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company regulations.
– Performing general housekeeping duties within the tractor, loading dock area, and ensuring trailers remain clear and clean.
– Undertaking additional related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
– Minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
– High school diploma/GED or a state-approved equivalent.
– Internal candidates must maintain good standing.
– Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
– Valid CDL A with Doubles Endorsement.
– Minimum age of 21 years.
– Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements, where applicable.
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Availability for the required 3rd shift schedule, from Sunday to Thursday nights (schedules may vary).
– Successful completion of post-offer drug tests and criminal background checks.
– Passing of road test.
– Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure a new DOT Health Card.
– Capability to hand-lift and utilize a two-wheeler, lift gate, and other equipment to handle and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift; products typically range from 10 to 35 pounds, with some items weighing between 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location.
