Summary of Duties:
The Cook is responsible for the safe handling and preparation of meals for residents within a Home for Aged (HFA) Assisted Living and Memory Care environment. This position operates under the supervision of the Executive Chef.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare food that is both palatable and visually appealing while adhering to government food safety regulations; assess food requirements for meal preparation, including variety and quantity, and organize necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Follow written menus and recipes to achieve accurate food yields and minimize waste.
  • Evaluate food quality based on nutritional value, preparation methods, taste, appearance, portion size, and appropriate serving and storage temperatures; ensure proper dating and rotation of food items, utilizing leftovers when suitable and discarding spoiled or unappealing food.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager on food preparation, presentation, recipe evaluation, menu planning, and required documentation; promptly communicate any incidents or concerns regarding resident care to the Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create menus and prepare food for special events as well as accommodate residents with restricted or special diets.
  • Ensure proper receipt and storage of food deliveries; maintain close communication with the Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager to guarantee all necessary food items are stocked for planned menus.
  • Exhibit excellent attendance and punctuality while proactively discussing any absences, injuries, or illnesses with the Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager.
  • Participate in a minimum of 10 in-service training programs annually.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
