This role is based at our Columbus, OH Plant within the Abbott Nutrition division. Our Nutrition business develops science-based nutrition products for individuals of all ages, from infants to adults, ensuring that millions rely on our renowned brands—such as Similac®, PediaSure®, Pedialyte®, Ensure®, and Glucerna®—to help them achieve optimal health. Abbott’s Columbus facility, being our first-ever manufacturing site, positions us at the forefront of producing scientifically-backed nutrition products. Here, you will be part of a collaborative team dedicated to producing high-quality products that enhance the lives of consumers.

Key Responsibilities as a Multicraft 1 Lead Technician:

  • Conduct repairs on gear heads and reducers; navigate various types of piping, including black iron, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and flexible tubing; install components such as seals, bearings, O-rings, gaskets, adhesive structures, belts, chains, rollers, sprockets, gears, and sheaves; troubleshoot and rebuild centrifugal and positive displacement pumps; fabricate parts using blueprints; weld stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum; and work with sheet metal and Lexan.
  • Execute repairs on production equipment and plant utility systems, troubleshoot complex, high-speed filling, packaging, and conveying machinery, and adjust operational systems such as rotary sterilizers and tray wrappers for efficacy.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot AC drive systems and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), with proficiency in accessing and interpreting PLC logic. The role requires familiarity with wiring schematics and the capability to install, wire, and maintain AC drives.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all plant and departmental procedures and safety regulations. Lead and provide on-the-job training to fellow employees, effectively communicate shift activities, utilize the plant work order system, and conduct equipment audits while developing parts replacement lists.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED combined with a two-year mechanical/electrical technical degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Successful attainment of Multi-Craft Level II status and completion of an annual recertification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutrition products.
  • At least one year of tenure at Abbott with a record of good performance.
