Position Details: This is a casual position offering flexible hours and scheduling. The role is located in the Emergency Center in Canton, with a rotating shift schedule. The primary shifts required are evenings during the week and weekends, with a minimum commitment of two shifts per week. Mandatory orientation will take place during the first week from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The minimum pay rate is $17.67 per hour. Please note that casual positions do not provide healthcare benefits.
Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Patient Access Registration Front Line Manager, the Acute Care Hospital Registrar 1 is responsible for ensuring a smooth and timely registration and admission process. This includes obtaining accurate demographic, clinical, and insurance data; collecting co-pays, deductibles, and prior balances; performing initial financial screenings for self-pay and out-of-network patients; and referring patients to Financial Advisors as necessary, all while providing exceptional customer satisfaction and support.
Essential Functions:
- Greet customers warmly and promptly, directing patients to the appropriate setting and providing explanations for any delays. Exhibit professionalism and diplomacy in accordance with departmental standards, and register patients accurately for various visit types using EPIC (Electronic Medical Record).
- Execute registration and financial functions efficiently, utilizing thorough interviewing techniques to collect necessary demographic and financial information, and ensure accurate documentation in EPIC.
- Review patient insurance details to identify and document the correct insurance plan, and facilitate recurring visit processing as per protocols.
- Verify patient information with third-party payers, collect insurance referrals, and communicate authorization requirements to patients and physicians. Obtain necessary financial responsibility forms.
- Review and witness hospital consent forms and Notices of Privacy Practices with patients and families, screen for medical necessity, provide cost estimates, and document relevant Advance Directive and Medicare Questionnaire information according to regulations.
- Advocate for financial assistance by screening self-pay and out-of-network patients, providing information for follow-up with Financial Advisors, and explaining government and private funding options.
- Manage cash receipts and complete cash balance sheets, maintaining accurate cash management protocols.
- Transcribe physician orders and communicate with healthcare staff as necessary, documenting appropriate ICD-10 codes and ensuring compliance with medical necessity checks.
- Prepare patient charts, manage miscellaneous reports and schedules, and maintain inventory of supplies.
- Assist in scheduling ancillary testing as needed and identify duplicate medical records for consolidation.
- Mentor newer team members, if applicable.
- Maintain departmental productivity standards and quality metrics, ensuring the highest level of service to clinical and downstream departments.
- Perform clerical responsibilities including typing, filing, and contacting patients for various administrative needs.
- Uphold Corewell Health’s Customer Service Standards and engage in ongoing compliance with health requirements such as regular TB testing and flu vaccinations.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of one year of relevant customer service experience or experience in the healthcare industry.
- Must be at least 18 years of age to co-sign legal documents.
