The Opportunity

This role is based at our Columbus, OH Plant within the Abbott Nutrition division. Our Nutrition business focuses on developing science-based products tailored for individuals at various life stages, from supporting infants’ growth to promoting health in adults. Key Responsibilities as a Multicraft 1 Lead Technician:

  • Repair and maintain gear heads and reducers and handle various piping types, including black iron, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and flexible tubing.
  • Install diverse components such as seals, bearings, O-rings, gaskets, adhesives, belts, chains, rollers, sprockets, gears, and sheaves; troubleshoot and rebuild centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, fabricate parts from blueprints, and perform welding tasks.
  • Utilize precision tools for part machining as needed, wire and repair electric motors, and execute basic electrical repairs while adhering to the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Perform complex troubleshooting on production equipment and plant utility systems, particularly high-speed filling, packaging, and conveying machines. Ensure optimal operation of electrical and mechanical systems through proper adjustments and maintenance.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot AC drive systems and PLCs, demonstrating proficiency in accessing and interpreting PLC logic and wiring diagrams. This role requires advanced troubleshooting skills for PLC systems and communication networks.
  • Operate with minimal supervision, adhering to all safety protocols and maintaining a clean workspace. Lead and mentor other maintenance personnel, ensuring organized communication of shift activities and effective use of the plant work order system.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, combined with a two-year mechanical or electrical technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Achievement of Multi-Craft Level II status, including successful completion of one annual recertification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with applicable regulatory standards for infant formula and nutritional products.
  • Completion of at least one year of successful employment with Abbott, maintaining a positive performance record.
