Job description:
Under the strategic direction of the Vice President of VA Operations, this role is responsible for managing the value-added fresh vegetable plant facility across various domains including production planning, sanitation, supply chain management, maintenance, safety, budgeting, personnel planning, cost reporting, financial analysis, productivity enhancements, and quality improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

– Provide effective leadership by establishing strategic and tactical direction for the Springfield team. This involves defining the Plant’s mission, fostering a culture that aligns with the Plant’s objectives, and promoting the growth of plant personnel and the leadership team.
– Ensure the optimal allocation of resources for product production and warehousing in a highly competitive market, aimed at delivering the highest quality product at the most cost-effective price.
– Promote a positive workplace culture while serving as a change agent.
– Implement lean methodologies throughout the manufacturing processes.
– Deliver exceptional customer service by guaranteeing product availability to meet market demand.
– Develop and execute both short-term tactical and long-term strategic operating plans.
– Assess and recommend comprehensive operational strategies to achieve corporate goals and objectives.
– Regularly monitor key plant metrics and manage resources effectively to fulfill company targets, including financial accountability for all plant operations.
– Oversee the coordination of production, maintenance, sanitation, and supply chain management activities, with direct supervision of over 700 hourly and more than 50 professional employees.
– Maintain a dotted line responsibility for Quality Assurance and Finance Managers.
– Support and uphold the plant safety program to ensure safe working conditions and achieve safety targets.
– Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and standards, particularly regarding food safety requirements to protect customers and consumers.
– Develop and implement the plant operating budget, providing monthly forecasts of operational performance and analyzing future capital needs.
– Act as the primary contact for policies, strategic initiatives, and resolving operational issues at the plant.
– Adhere to all relevant Food Safety Requirements and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
– Safeguard the integrity and continuity of the food safety system amidst organizational and personnel changes.
– Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

– A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in Operations Management within a major food processing/packaging company, ideally with fresh food products in environments below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
– Proven supervisory experience is essential.
– Familiarity with Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing principles is advantageous.
– Strong oral and written communication skills, along with robust leadership capabilities, enabling effective management, motivation, and training of personnel.
– Knowledge of manufacturing safety protocols, quality assurance standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
– Comprehensive understanding of applicable safety and quality regulations.
– A background in finance and accounting is preferred.
– Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse workforce efficiently.
– In-depth knowledge of food plant operations, focusing on productivity and cost drivers.
– Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Excel and Word.
– Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred.
– Ability to make sound decisions, maintain regular attendance, follow directives, interact collaboratively with coworkers, adhere to posted workflow regulations, and accept constructive feedback.

Physical Requirements:

– Ability to navigate around various equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and lift up to 40 pounds.
– Capacity to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
– Potential for exposure to fumes and airborne particles.
– Ability to work in a cold environment (approximately 35 degrees Fahrenheit) on the plant floor occasionally.

Work Hours & Travel Requirements:
