Job description:

Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital is seeking a dedicated full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our esteemed AAHA-accredited and Fear Free Certified team. Candidates must hold a Veterinary Technician License in the State of Michigan.

As a three-doctor practice, Gibraltar Veterinary Hospital specializes in the care of dogs and cats, offering a comprehensive range of services including ultrasound, laser therapy, and various surgical procedures. Location: 29503 W. Jefferson Ave., Gibraltar, Michigan 48173
Clinic Hours: Monday-Friday 8 AM – 5 PM, Saturday 8 AM – 2 PM
Compensation: $22 – $26 per hour, based on experience and skills

Responsibilities:
Major Duties:

  • Administer in-patient medical care, including medication administration, treatment assistance, diagnostics, IV catheter placement, blood draw, laboratory testing, and patient monitoring. Responsibilities also include cleaning, feeding, and walking patients as needed.
  • Manage anesthesia and surgical duties, which comprise preparation, induction, maintenance, monitoring, recovery, and sterilization of anesthesia equipment and surgical instruments.
  • Provide dental care for patients, including ultrasonic cleaning, polishing, and supporting veterinary dentists during procedures.
  • Assist with radiology by positioning patients and forwarding radiographic images.
  • Conduct laboratory duties, including sample collection, preparation, analysis or submission of tests, and recording results for requested diagnostics.
  • Prepare invoices, discharge instructions, and educational materials for clients.
  • Maintain client communication regarding hospitalized patients, providing updates, discharge instructions, and follow-up information as necessary.
  • Conduct client educational sessions related to at-home care procedures.
  • Facilitate veterinary technician appointments for various post-operative procedures and monitoring tests.
  • Assist the veterinarian during outpatient appointments by preparing and restocking examination rooms, checking patients in and out, collecting medical histories and vital signs, and maintaining a smooth workflow.
  • Support reception/front desk functions including phone management, appointment scheduling, and patient admissions/discharges.
  • Aid in the training and mentoring of new team members.
  • Assist with inventory management by notifying the inventory manager of low stock, unpacking, and restocking supplies.
  • Prepare and dispense medications and medication refills.

Qualifications:
Physical Requirements:

  • The veterinary technician must possess the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb, and be capable of manipulating (lifting, carrying, moving) objects up to 50 pounds and more with assistance.
  • Capable of enduring extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking on hard surfaces.
  • Sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties within the hospital environment.
  • Ability to work in noisy conditions, with moderate equipment and animal sounds.
  • Potential exposure to various pets, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and visual acuity necessary to operate equipment and utilize a keyboard.
