Job Overview
In this role, you will provide comprehensive leadership for the facility and operational needs of the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) and its satellite facilities. As a valued member of the senior leadership team, your key responsibilities will encompass facility and project management, oversight of custodial, maintenance, and building systems, staff management and development, strategic planning, fiscal management, and the establishment of relevant policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Participate as a member of the senior leadership team to collaboratively define and achieve the department’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Directly and indirectly supervise full-time staff by hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and setting performance standards, while also overseeing student staff.
- Lead and mentor the Facilities and Operations team, promoting a positive, inclusive, and productive work atmosphere.
- Oversee the operational needs of the facilities, including project management, HVAC coordination, event management, climbing wall programming, facility scheduling, and staffing.
- Collaborate with Facilities Management to set priorities and schedules that ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities, while conducting regular safety inspections.
- Work with key stakeholders to procure fitness equipment, manage preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, and coordinate installations.
- Act as the primary point of contact for construction and renovation projects, liaising between the Campus Recreation team, architects, and contractors.
- Manage contracts with vendors and ensure compliance with budgetary and operational agreements.
- Interpret and implement industry best practices regarding safety and risk management policies, including building access and security systems, along with technology equipment.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, implement safety protocols, report and manage safety incidents, and maintain accident reports while liaising with relevant departments.
- Develop and oversee the fiscal responsibilities associated with annual operating and capital budgets, including prioritizing purchase requests and reconciling discrepancies.
- Collect, analyze, and report data on facility usage, member feedback, and operational recommendations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of facility operational trends and best practices to ensure the implementation of effective products and services.
- Engage in special projects and initiatives supporting Campus Recreation, Campus Services, and the University, and actively participate in relevant committees.
- Lead by example and engage firsthand with the facilities.
- Availability for occasional weekend and evening hours is required.

Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Nine (9) years of relevant work experience or specialized training may substitute for the educational requirement.
Required Trainings/Certifications
- Certification by the American Red Cross in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid is required within six (6) months of employment.
Required Experience
- Five (5) years of progressive experience in facility operations, including maintenance practices, custodial services, building systems, and safety regulations in recreational, municipal, or athletic settings.
Additional Qualifications Considered
- Three (3) years of professional staff supervision experience, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and managing operating and capital budgets across multiple cost centers.
- A solid foundation in facilities and operations, encompassing supervision, maintenance, housekeeping services, project coordination, and risk management.
- Proven leadership skills, with a track record of staff development and performance management.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong analytical skills with an aptitude for identifying issues, assessing alternatives, and making logical decisions.
