Job Overview
We seek a dynamic leader to oversee the facility and operational needs of the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) and various satellite facilities. As a vital member of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for facility and project management, custodial oversight, maintenance and building systems management, staff development and leadership, strategic planning, and fiscal oversight while establishing prudent policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define and achieve the department’s mission, vision, and goals.
  • Directly supervise full-time staff, including recruitment, training, coaching, evaluations, and goal-setting, while providing indirect supervision to student personnel.
  • Guide and mentor the Facilities and Operations team, cultivating a positive, inclusive, and productive workplace.
  • Oversee facility and operational needs, including project coordination, HVAC management, event planning, climbing wall programming and operations, as well as facility scheduling and staffing.
  • Work closely with Facilities Management to prioritize tasks and establish schedules to maintain safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities, conducting regular safety inspections.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to procure facility and fitness equipment and oversee maintenance, repairs, replacements, and installation coordination.
  • Serve as the point of contact for construction and renovation projects, working alongside the Campus Recreation team, architects, and contractors.
  • Manage contracts and agreements with vendors, suppliers, and service providers related to capital purchases.
  • Interpret and implement best practices in safety and risk management, including policies and procedures related to building access, security systems, and technology equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, implement safety protocols, address concerns, maintain incident records, and serve as liaison with UC Risk Management, Police Department, and Student Conduct and Community Standards.
  • Oversee fiscal operations, including annual operating and capital budgets, prioritizing and approving purchase requests and resolving discrepancies.
  • Collect, analyze, and generate reports on facility metrics, usage, member feedback, and strategic recommendations.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of industry trends to implement best practices for facility operations and services.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives supporting Campus Recreation, Campus Services, and the University, and actively engage in departmental and university committees.
  • Exemplify leadership by utilizing the facilities personally.
  • Availability for occasional weekend and evening hours is required.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Alternatively, nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or specialized training may substitute for the educational requirement.

Required Certifications

  • Must possess American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid certification within six (6) months of employment.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of comprehensive experience in facility operations, maintenance, custodial services, building systems, and safety regulations in recreation, municipal, or athletic settings.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • At least three (3) years of direct, full-time experience in staff supervision, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Experience in developing and managing operating and capital budgets across multiple cost centers.
  • Strong background in facility operations, including supervision, maintenance, project management, event planning, and risk management.
  • Proven leadership in staff development and performance management.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in collaborative environments.
