Lighthouse MI is a growing non-profit organization established in 2019 through the merger of Lighthouse of Oakland County and South Oakland Shelter. Our mission is to provide a robust response to poverty within the Metro Detroit community. With over 80 years of combined experience, Lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope by offering assistance with emergency basic needs, housing programs, and supportive services aimed at promoting long-term economic stability. Our subsidiary, Spero Housing Group, is dedicated to developing and operating high-quality affordable and supportive housing for individuals of low and moderate income, while HandUp serves as a crowdfunding platform for over 100 homeless service agencies and their clients nationwide.
Position Summary
Lighthouse is seeking a highly motivated and organized Event & Marketing Communications Manager to enhance and promote its mission-driven work. This role will oversee two annual events, including a primary fundraising event, The Rent Party, and will spearhead Lighthouse’s marketing strategies encompassing direct mail messaging, printed materials, e-newsletters, web content, email, and social media communications, as well as the Annual Report. This position requires a blend of strategic planning and hands-on execution to foster engagement and support our mission across various channels. The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively across departments, meticulously manage details, and exhibit a strong focus on project execution.
This position is crucial for the successful outreach of Lighthouse events, which aim to connect with a wide and diverse audience. The Event & Marketing Communications Manager will be responsible for event planning, sponsorship acquisition, revenue generation, management, execution, and marketing activities. Additional responsibilities include committee management, sponsorship solicitation, constituent communication, and broader project management. Close collaboration with development team leaders will be essential to identify and capitalize on opportunities for growth.
In terms of marketing communications, this position will align with both organizational objectives and fund development strategies. The manager will serve as the primary liaison for public relations, web, and design vendors, optimizing their services to support Lighthouse’s initiatives. They will also develop messaging for direct mail and newsletters while analyzing performance metrics to refine future strategies.
This role necessitates the ability to anticipate project needs, prioritize tasks efficiently, and adhere to deadlines. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in building and maintaining positive relationships with donors, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and staff. This full-time position offers a flexible hybrid work schedule that includes dedicated office hours, attendance at community events, external meetings, and remote work options.
Responsibilities & Duties
Event Management:
- Drive strategy to secure both returning and new sponsors for The Rent Party.
- Collaborate on strategies to ensure a successful and engaging Annual Meeting.
- Manage timelines, programs, and task lists for events.
- Serve as the staff lead for The Rent Party committee.
- Negotiate and oversee logistics and vendor services.
- Coordinate event volunteers, awards, and entertainment; develop run-of-show documents, review speeches, write scripts, and oversee rehearsals.
- Develop and manage the invitation, registration, and attendee check-in processes.
- Align post-event follow-ups with sponsors and donors through a Moves Management strategy.
- Provide support and advice for additional Lighthouse events as needed.
Marketing Communications:
Integrated Digital Communications and Marketing
- Develop and implement comprehensive, data-driven digital marketing strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
- Participate in managing the content calendar across all digital platforms.
- Coordinate with colleagues and vendors to design, implement, and create content for email marketing and social media campaigns.
- Schedule and deploy emails via Constant Contact.
- Manage analytics, performance metrics, and reporting across email and social media platforms.
Project-Based Marketing and Communications Support
- Oversee the development, design, publication, and dissemination of the Annual Report.
- Lead initiatives related to organizational initiatives and programs, including the bi-annual newsletter and volunteer newsletter.
- Contribute to direct mail messaging, ensuring consistency with social and digital communications.
- Create or supervise the production of marketing materials to support organizational objectives.
- Track and report on project-specific marketing metrics.
Organizational Support, Brand Management, and Strategy
- Collaborate on Lighthouse’s overall marketing and communications strategy, including the implementation of plans to achieve goals.
- Manage the organizational brand and its positioning across all channels and initiatives.
- Ensure accuracy, inclusivity, engagement, and alignment across all content.
- Maintain relationships with marketing vendors and contractors.
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to effectively communicate the mission’s impact.
- Develop and maintain tools and systems to manage processes, assets, and documentation within the organization.
Website Management
- Oversee all aspects of website management, including content updates, user experience optimization, and technical maintenance.
- Collaborate with external IT teams to ensure adequate security and performance of the website.
- Manage website analytics and develop informed strategies for improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a preferred master’s degree in a related field.
- A minimum of two years of experience in event management and/or marketing roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps.
- Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
- A collaborative team player who approaches challenges positively and seeks solutions in a fast-paced nonprofit setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with managing websites and content management systems (CMS).
- Proven success in directing effective digital marketing campaigns and familiarity with industry trends.
- Advanced proficiency in analytics tools, specifically Google Analytics.
- Experience developing email marketing strategies and familiarity with related platforms.
- Competence in creating social media strategies (both organic and paid) and proficiency with management tools.
- Strong project management abilities and the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Familiarity with Blackbaud’s Raisers Edge and experience with email marketing platforms like Constant Contact.
- Highly collaborative and able to work effectively with diverse teams.
