Job description:

The Club Manager will oversee gym operations to ensure an exceptional "Judgement Free" member experience while fostering a financially successful environment. This position requires effective leadership of a diverse team, including continuous support in employee training and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing staff, which includes Assistant Managers, Member Service Representatives, Trainers, and Custodians.
  • Cultivate and maintain a welcoming atmosphere for all members, prospective members, and guests, ensuring adherence to superior customer service guidelines by the staff.
  • Manage staffing by scheduling employees and ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.
  • Lead by example through consistent accountability for direct reports by providing training and coaching, reinforcing Planet Fitness’s values and objectives.
  • Administer and oversee weekly/bi-weekly employee payroll processing.
  • Address and resolve employee issues or concerns effectively.
  • Manage disciplinary actions and termination processes as necessary.
  • Oversee front desk operations, which include:
    • Answering phones in a professional and friendly manner, assisting callers with various inquiries.
    • Checking members into the system.
    • Facilitating new member sign-ups.
    • Conducting tours for potential members.
    • Addressing member requests, issues, and questions promptly.
  • Ensure timely opening and closing of the gym.
  • Supervise the cleanliness and maintenance of the facility, taking primary responsibility for significant daily cleaning tasks.
  • Safeguard the well-being of employees, members, and club property.
  • Identify and communicate necessary equipment repairs in a timely manner.
  • Manage marketing initiatives by ensuring staff are informed and trained on all marketing promotions.
  • Authorize expenditures and process refunds, as well as manage daily bank deposits.
  • Prepare all HR-related paperwork and submit it to the Corporate Payroll Team.
  • Track and report relevant statistics on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Provide backup support for any employee who is absent.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Exceptional customer service skills, preferably within the fitness industry.
  • Previous experience as an Assistant Manager at Planet Fitness is highly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, diplomatic, and listening abilities.
  • Basic proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A diligent, enthusiastic, and energetic attitude is essential.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.
  • Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.

Physical Demands:

  • Continuous standing and walking during the shift.
  • Regular communication, both in person and over the phone, throughout the shift.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
