Job description:
Accountable for the execution of daily non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities, ensuring an efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Functions as a full-time certified pharmacy technician, operating pharmacy systems to obtain essential patient and drug information while processing prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, oversees pharmacy technicians and cashiers, adhering to established company policies, laws, regulations, and ethical standards.

Responsible for selecting, scheduling, and developing pharmacy technician personnel, leading training, coaching, and performance management efforts. Makes informed decisions regarding performance management, including disciplinary actions and terminations.

Engages with customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Proactively resolves customer complaints and addresses requests in a timely manner, ensuring a positive customer experience while modeling and sharing best practices in customer service. Develops strong relationships with customers by anticipating their needs and effectively providing services, thereby enhancing their overall experience with the pharmacy.

Assists the pharmacist in delivering patient care, which includes patient registration, prescription data entry, and preparation of medications as allowed by law. Completes patient and physician calls under a pharmacist’s supervision and contributes to healthcare service offerings, including administering vaccines and conducting health screenings as permitted.

Exercising independent judgment within authorized guidelines, delegates and assigns non-clinical tasks in the pharmacy to ensure timely completion and efficient workflow. Prepares and files required reports and records under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist. Manages the core pharmacy workflow, coordinating daily activities, recommending pharmacy hours, and maintaining an orderly and adequately stocked environment.

Works under the pharmacist’s direction to ensure compliance and execution of all business administrative activities and inventory management tasks that do not require licensed pharmacist oversight, including managing annual inventory preparations. Drives the implementation of new technologies and processes, champions change, and engages the team in action planning. Oversees the operation and maintenance of pharmacy equipment, ensuring that security safeguards are in place in collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager.

Strictly adheres to Walgreen Co. policies regarding Good Faith Dispensing during applicable prescription activities, maintaining knowledge of asset protection techniques and supporting the Pharmacy Manager with diversion monitoring. Communicates prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follows company policies concerning pharmacy errors and the Continuous Quality Improvement Program. Ensures the accurate processing of insurance claims to address customer concerns and prevent payment rejections, and conducts follow-ups with insurance companies and medical providers.

Assists the Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financial performance, operational quality, and customer service. Manages the Community Outreach Portal and coordinates pharmacists’ participation in off-site immunization clinics and community events, fostering strong relationships with retail partners.

Leads performance management initiatives for pharmacy technicians, including personnel decisions and recommendations concerning discipline and termination. Follows constructive discipline policies to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, while promoting accountability for attendance and punctuality. Responsible for technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling, ensuring timely completion of training and adherence to established policies.

Identifies knowledge gaps in pharmacy operations among team members and provides support for their training needs. Collaborates with the Pharmacy Manager to monitor that all team member licensures, registrations, and certifications are current and compliant with regulatory requirements, utilizing resources such as the Walgreens Online Verification System for documentation.

Ensures adherence to selection, recruitment, record retention, and training procedures as established by company policy and applicable laws. Maintains certification through the designated PTCB training program and/or state-required credentials, continuously enhancing pharmacy-related knowledge and skills. Actively seeks professional development opportunities, solicits feedback, and leverages mentorship from a Healthcare Supervisor.

Communicates effectively with the pharmacy team, transmitting important information from the support center and participating in key store and pharmacy meetings, including regular check-ins with the Store Manager.
