Job description:

We are actively seeking to fill a BARISTA position at Oakland University. The role is located at 2200 North Squirrel Rd., Rochester, MI 48309, with applications being accepted exclusively online.

Job Summary:
In this position, you will prepare and serve a variety of coffee, espresso drinks, and related food and beverage items. Adherence to HACCP guidelines and quality standards is essential while ensuring friendly and courteous interactions with customers and colleagues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare espresso orders for customers and catering using established measures and recipes.
  • Accurately enter orders into the POS system and handle cash and charge transactions.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the service area by replenishing condiments, beverages, and general supplies.
  • Ensure proper presentation, portion control, and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures; adhere to HACCP standards.
  • Maintain sanitation and organization of all equipment, supplies, and utensils.
  • Follow approved recipes and production standards to ensure quality food preparation.
  • Keep display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service.
  • Conduct thorough cleaning of equipment and workstation before transitioning to other assignments.
  • Greet customers warmly and interact in a way that prioritizes customer satisfaction, relaying any relevant concerns to supervisors.
  • Serve customers efficiently to minimize delays in service lines.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of daily menu items and accurately convey this information to customers.
  • Facilitate customer purchasing decisions by employing effective communication and selling techniques.
  • Ensure that all display items are presented attractively per standards and serve food in a neat and visually appealing manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
