Job description:
Mastec Communications Group is looking for a skilled and motivated Generator Technician to join our team, focusing on servicing and repairing commercial generators at cell phone towers within your region. This dynamic and engaging position is ideally suited for self-directed individuals who are highly motivated, willing to travel, and eager to develop their careers in the telecommunications industry.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain, diagnose, and repair generators; install or replace components or entire systems as needed.
- Perform additional maintenance and upgrades on out-of-season equipment.
- Conduct performance checks and regular maintenance to ensure operational readiness.
- Read and interpret blueprints or specifications to facilitate installation or repairs.
- Install electrical wiring and controls, ensuring proper functionality through thorough testing.
- Install fuel and water supply lines, pumps, and other essential components.
- Connect electrical wiring appropriately.
- Practice environmental responsibility by conserving, recovering, and recycling oil, fuel filters, and other fluids.
- Collaborate with fellow Generator Service Technicians to troubleshoot and repair equipment effectively.
- Respond promptly to power and generator alarms, being available for on-call duties 24/7 as necessary, managing communications via assigned phone and email efficiently.
- Operate computers or similar devices to access relevant systems and equipment.
- Function independently with minimal supervision.
- Undertake responsibilities while being mindful of potential hazards associated with power supply equipment installation and maintenance, including falls, electric shock, and traffic risks; adhere to safety protocols and actively participate in safety and training meetings.
- Comply with all industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience in generator maintenance is preferred, with a minimum of one year involving work-related experience with generator and electrical maintenance software, hardware, and processes.
- In-depth knowledge of generator installation, maintenance, and repair; familiarity with electronic, mechanical, and electrical components; moderate computer proficiency; basic understanding of pertinent FCC, FAA, EPA, and OSHA regulations.
- The position requires the ability to lift over 50 pounds, along with stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and standing for extended durations. Candidates must possess unimpaired hearing and be able to communicate effectively, both orally and via telephone. Willingness to drive long distances and work flexible hours—day, evening, or night—along with availability for overtime, emergency call-outs, weekends, and holidays is essential. Additionally, the selected candidate should be prepared to assume 24-hour on-call duty as assigned and may be required to spend prolonged periods away from home.
