Purpose of This Position:
The Life Enrichment Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the life enrichment program within the Terrace and Courtyard. Under the guidance of the Life Enrichment Coordinator, the Assistant is expected to independently lead activities that promote engagement and enrichment among residents.

Wage: $14.00 to $16.00 per hour

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Life Enrichment Assistant position should exhibit a positive and respectful attitude toward individuals living with dementia. Necessary qualifications include maturity and the capability to effectively manage the demands of the role, as well as education and experience relevant to working with frail elderly populations, particularly those affected by dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Coursework or practical experience in gerontology is desirable. The candidate must possess compassion for serving the frail elderly, demonstrate innovative and creative thinking, and exhibit the ability to read, write, and follow directions. Successful completion of a state-mandated criminal background screening and random drug testing is required.

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrates familiarity with the GEMS: Positive Approach to Dementia Care.
• Establishes GEM boxes to facilitate active engagement for residents with dementia.
• Engages directly with individuals as well as small and large groups of residents in the Terrace and Courtyard.
• Develops and leads various activities for residents, including group exercises, music sessions, reminiscence activities, crafts, manicures, and participation in household tasks such as folding laundry and setting tables.
• Collaborates with the Life Enrichment Coordinator to plan special events, including musical programs, outings, and family gatherings.
• Assists Resident Service Assistants with the implementation of GEMS concepts.
• Prepares activity materials for residents, such as crafts, games, puzzles, and manicures, ensuring a selection of diverse polish colors.
• Upholds all Resident Rights, including maintaining confidentiality.
• Performs other duties as assigned to meet the living center’s goals and objectives.

Physical requirements of this role include the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and to engage in various physical activities such as standing, bending, twisting, turning, stooping, squatting, sitting, kneeling, pulling, pushing, and walking long distances on hard surfaces for extended periods. The position also involves the capacity to perform repetitive physical tasks, tolerate exposure to varying temperatures, and work with strong smells and chemicals, such as those used for manicures.
