Job description:

Responsible for the planning and execution of all pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and initial operational activities related to major building systems. The commissioning team, under the leadership of the Commissioning Agent, aims to verify the proper installation, operation, and performance of systems in accordance with project design specifications. This process of commissioning enhances the facility’s overall quality, performance, and efficiency, thereby contributing to increased sustainability through the identification of issues and discrepancies.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the commissioning team and oversee the commissioning process on assigned projects.
  • Apply project management skills effectively to ensure timely execution.
  • Execute commissioning activities related to HVAC, lighting, renewable energy, and water reuse systems.
  • Facilitate commissioning progress meetings.
  • Recommend improvements and provide guidance on operational procedures.
  • Schedule and coordinate work to meet stringent construction deadlines.
  • Ensure that all building systems operate to specified standards.
  • Develop and implement test procedures, including commissioning checklists for installation verification and functional performance testing of equipment and integrated systems.
  • Investigate issues, diagnose, and repair faults within building systems.
  • Troubleshoot various building systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with installation and project engineers to address commissioning issues.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation reflecting project status and outcomes.
  • Provide technical support as needed to team members and clients.
  • Uphold safe working conditions throughout all commissioning activities.
  • Train maintenance and operational staff where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, including email and MS Office.
  • Manage workloads under pressure, understanding that tight schedules may necessitate additional hours, including shifts and non-traditional hours, particularly for 24-hour operations.
  • Interface with design and construction team members to ensure seamless integration of commissioning activities and to effectively manage documentation.

Requirements:

  • Completion of formal HVAC training/education with significant relevant work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Strong descriptive writing abilities to convey technical requirements to non-technical clients clearly.
  • Proven track record in delivering exceptional customer service and project management.
  • Robust technical knowledge in commercial and institutional building systems and operations.
  • Substantial experience in executing building energy efficiency projects.
  • Hands-on experience in the testing, start-up, and troubleshooting of HVAC systems, including cooling towers, chillers, packaged rooftop units, ERUs, DOAS, AHUs, VRFs, and VFDs within various facility types, including medical, laboratory, schools, and commercial buildings.
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems as well as control systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical and fire/life safety systems.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
