Brown and Caldwell presents an exciting opportunity for a Senior Biosolids Engineer to lead significant projects and provide outstanding service to our established wastewater and biosolids clients. This role involves acting as a key resource for wastewater and biosolids planning and design initiatives, while also nurturing and enhancing relationships with our existing clientele. In this role, you will work closely with the National Practice Lead (NPL) and the National Technology and Innovation Lead (NTIL) for Solids and Energy. Your responsibilities will encompass the design, troubleshooting, and optimization of high-temperature thermal processes, including incineration. You will also identify and pursue relevant research opportunities alongside the NTIL, and receive technical mentorship from the latter. The NPL will collaborate with you to identify projects and opportunities for advancement, both within your specific geographic area and beyond.
Additionally, this role will support technical sales initiatives as determined by the NPL and relevant leaders within the business unit. This may involve attending conferences and participating in association groups, such as the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and regional biosolids associations.
Key responsibilities include:
– Actively managing assigned projects and key client relationships.
– Ensuring adherence to budget and profitability targets for assigned projects.
– Developing and maintaining strong connections with existing clients while fostering new relationships.
– Providing expert consultation on biosolids projects, including decision-making and problem-solving.
– Contributing to the enhancement of company resources, tools, and standards to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of biosolids project delivery.
– Preparing and delivering presentations to clients during project technical meetings.
– Upholding the quality of project deliverables in line with scope, budget, and timelines.
– Mentoring junior staff through project involvement and guidance.
Desired skills and experience include:
– A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Chemical, Sanitary, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
– A minimum of ten years of experience in municipal engineering and consulting.
– Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
– Demonstrated expertise in the planning and execution of biosolids projects.
– Experience with high-temperature processes, particularly incineration, is preferred.
– Proficiency in mass and energy balances.
– Experience in designing, troubleshooting, and optimizing thermal reactors, energy recovery devices, and associated air pollution controls, as well as handling of feedstock and residuals, is preferred.
– Familiarity with biosolids regulations and current issues, such as PFAS, is preferred.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to conduct effective presentations and create detailed reports.
– Knowledge of regulatory compliance and permitting.
– Robust project or task management capabilities.
– Experience in marketing, proposal development, proposal management, and public presentations.
– Excellent technical writing and communication skills are essential.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
– A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record may be necessary.
Salary Range: The anticipated starting salary for this position varies by primary work location and may adjust based on skills, experience, and education. The ranges may be subject to change in the future.
