The Michigan Black Business Alliance (MBBA) is dedicated to empowering Black entrepreneurs through a comprehensive suite of programs and services, including access to capital, mentorship, business education, and policy advocacy. Our mission is to foster environments where Black businesses can incubate and thrive, strategically placing ourselves in critical locations and events to amplify our voice in pursuit of systemic change for Black entrepreneurs. We recognize the historical context of government-sponsored oppression and the intentional policies that have contributed to the widening racial wealth gap.
The Program Coordinator will be instrumental in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of various initiatives aimed at supporting Black-owned businesses in Michigan. This position requires a proactive individual who will oversee program logistics, coordinate events, and engage with stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of MBBA’s programs.
Core Job Responsibilities
Program Coordination
- Assist in developing and implementing program strategies and objectives in alignment with MBBA’s mission and goals.
- Coordinate and oversee program activities to guarantee timely execution and compliance with budgetary regulations.
- Monitor program progress, track relevant metrics, and prepare reports on outcomes and impacts.
Event Coordination
- Plan, coordinate, and execute events such as workshops, seminars, networking sessions, and conferences tailored to the interests and needs of Black-owned businesses.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to secure venues, speakers, sponsors, and vendors for events.
- Manage logistical aspects of events, including registration, materials preparation, audiovisual setup, and catering.
- Partner with internal teams to translate member needs into actionable solutions.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with business owners, community leaders, government officials, youth, and funding partners within the small business ecosystem to ensure their active participation in MBBA’s programs.
- Collaborate with partners to create meaningful connections and networking opportunities for program participants.
Resource Development and Promotion
- Utilize diverse communication channels to engage program participants and stakeholders, keeping them informed about upcoming events and opportunities.
Administrative Support
- Provide general administrative support to the MBBA team, including maintaining program files, managing data collection and reporting, and preparing correspondence related to programs.
- Assist with fundraising initiatives and grant reporting as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
Qualifications and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field (relevant experience may be substituted for a degree).
- Demonstrated experience in program coordination, event planning, or project management.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- A genuine willingness to learn new skills and assume responsibilities while working independently.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Michigan’s business landscape and an understanding of the challenges faced by Black-owned businesses is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
- Experience utilizing Google products for collaboration and communication.
- Familiarity with CRM systems, such as Zoho, and project management tools like Monday.com, is a plus.
Compensation
- Salary Range: $40,000 – $60,000 per year.

Hiring Process
- The interview process includes a screening call with selected candidates, an in-person interview with the Director of Programs and Program Manager, and a case study assessment.
